So, I take it "perching" in Redwillows IS indeed an exploit, seeing how fast that fairly popular thread disappeared this morning....

It's been a while since I've run it, but as long as the enemy NPCs can still attack you and aren't stuck it should be ok.  If you're hiding behind an invisible wall and they can't damage you then it might be an exploit.  I could see it being defendable or punishable.

"moving to higher ground to achieve a strategic advantage is not an exploit."

and another rule said

"causing the enemy to be stuck on a piece of geometry or rendering it unable to attack are exploits."

All of the creatures in Redwillows have ranged weapons/attacks I think

Other examples include von 2 when the minotaurs attack after the first set of hobgoblins, running with the devils final fight room off to the left upon entry to the big end room (where the devil comes after triggering the final fight), von 4 where the speaking stone is that can be jumped on top of, rainbow in the dark where you set off the random trap for the extra chests, uhhh that's all I've got off the top of my head.

Yes at low lvl if you dont have the gear to twink then yes you  might need the "strategies" but if you have at least one level 20 character you shouldnt have an issue blasting through most quest.

I am one of those that said it was an exploit because if the OP statement that the giants couldn't hurt you was true then you got them stuck.  Now if they are throwing rocks that can indeed hit party members then its more likely a cheesy tactic.  To be safe I wouldn't do it since if the company enforces game rules anyway near like they do forum rules...then your are just gambling with idiots who cannot tell the letter of the law from the spirit of the law

I have done this quest on multiple classes solo without having to use cheese.  Its not that hard to do.  You would think it was some epic level harder than diamond quest the way some people whine.   

Its a level 6 quest what does end game have to do with it? So please take your tired old vet card and jam it up your ass.  If you really think you need 5 fucking years of game play to know a simple ass quest then I want what you are smoking.
