what are the best favored enemies to pick and why?

evil outsider is a pretty obvious top choice

undead seems like a good choice 2

if you go to 18 ranger for tempest 3 you get 4 choices so what should be the last 2?

giant? elemental? construct?

Meh, the real trouble points aren't even the devs, it is the management. The mods are no walk in the park either but the main problem is management.

I took Lizard to start, but I also have enough Syberis dragonshard bits floating around that I knew I could respec after I finished The Pit.

I currently have Construct, Elemental, Evil Outsider and Undead.

I'd have taken Evil Outsider and Lawful Outsider and dropped Elemental, but the favored enemies don't stack.  Sad

Well Lawful Outsider would give you FE status on the Eladrin in Vale for one quest, would be more useful if they ever roll out the Archon side of Amrath. Human is another pick that some take given that there is a lot of them in Inspired Quarter and Dreaming Dark... though given that said humans can be crit its not really a worthy contender to me.

FE ooze might be good for a laugh though. A certain optional red named cube in Red Fens comes to mind. And while its certainly not a shoo in choice... the fact that living spells also count as oozes at least gives it a little additional value.

No.

Eladrin are Chaotic, not Lawful. They are Good Outsiders however so when they roll out the Archons, FE: Good Outsider might be useful there (assuming they can be enemies) and it will still be useful in Running with the Devils out in the Vale.

I would say it changes when you level. Too bad the FE's are not Enhancements.
Low levels Undead and Giants are good. Then Evil Outsiders. Change Giants to Elementals or Constructs at higher levels.

What I have on my character that has the highest number of ranger levels (18):
EO
Undead
Elementals
Constructs

which is a fairly standard loadout around cap.

Undead
Giant (swap after Gianthold) for Construct
EO
Elemental

...I debated also swapping Undead for Aberration since Undead are pretty scarce at end game.
