Shroud Part 2
Dec 1st, 2010 at 8:17am
Print Post
So instead of waiting to find a Shroud group on Paladdium today, I am going to start one. I am comfortable enough with all of the other parts, the only thing I am unsure of is the order of the kills in part 2. I know you kill the slowest first and the fastest last, but can anyone actually list the order they should be dropped in?

Fire and lion last, other than that it doesn't matter so much. Even that shouldn't matter so much, so long as most stuff is close to dying.

Exactly.  If you have the Orthon, you can always kill him first because he's slow as molasses.  Orc is pretty slow too.

This.
Get everything prepped and just kill from north to south as a group.  Assuming everything gets prepped properly, if your group has even mediocre DPS you'll be fine by just rushing as a group.
As you get further south, the group gets bigger, meaning things die even faster.
As long as they're all prepped, the order really doesn't matter unless the group's DPS sucks.

edit: and if the group's DPS sucks, you should have already figured that out from portal beating, so you can plan appropriately if portals take forever.

Fire then cat if you get both.

The only time I pay much attention is when we do get both or we don't have an experienced crystal killer.  My thoughts:

- Make sure the pull is (mostly) complete before you start to kill.  It sucks when two mobs are dead and you can't find one because he hasn't stepped away from the crystal.  You can make an exception of the orthon because he is so damn slow.
- Once things start to drop, people shouldn't stand around after their mob is killed.  Move on to the next one they can find, and kill it.
- Troll is a good one to kill last or next to last because of his regen speed.  This can backfire if not enough people converge on him after the others are dead though.
- I'll say it anyway: firewall the crystal in advance.  No caster?  Clerics, rangers, and favored souls with offensive spells work well for this too.  Even melee rangers have manyshot.  Make sure the ranger has arrows though -- Infi, I'm looking at youl.

Don't forget about the Devil.  He's always in my list to drop first (with the Orthon and Orc) because he's slow as molasses too, and he runs around like crazy.

Better to get him out of the way than to kill faster stuff and have to chase his ass all over the map while the rest are walking to the crystal.

My very first Shroud on my FvS (which was when he was 15th) the Party Leader actually asked me to help clear portals and put me on crytal duty. It was an interesting experience.

Oh, and if you let FatherKline into your group, make sure to let him get killed first and leave his stone where it can't reach the shrine.  Better to get him out of the way early so you can have a smooth run from there.

Yeah, if it's a cleric or FvS I'll ask if they have spells loaded and on their hotbar just to be safe.  Then I ask if they actually know which hotbar, since I usually take about 30 seconds to find them on my screen.

A ranger-free group, all melee with throwers makes for an interesting crystal takedown.  Good times.

Here is the exact order of speed as far as I know...I cannot remember the original source of the data may have been Shug's thread.

From fastest to slowest:
Fast
Lion
Fire
Orc
Kobold
Troll
Trog
Gnoll
Earth
Devil
Orthon
Slow

My biggest lesson when I started leading puggish Shroud's is that you cannot assume people aren't morons.  In Part 2, I found that you need to ride herd over the melees.  If you assume they will do what is required based off simple instructions and the fact that the shroud is tit simple they will disappoint you.  Never take earth or fire if you are leading; pulling one of these takes you too far out of the game and you cannot see what the hell is going on which guarantees shit will hit the fan.  I also tend to roam and make sure people are actually pulling the bosses to the proper spot.  If I didn't watch and keep saying dipshit there, assfuck there, they would inevitably clump up in a giant turd sandwich.

Don't be afraid to be loud and force full when giving directions in Part 2.

On my most successful runs if people just pull the danged bosses apart fast enough after prepping it doesn't matter the order, save for fire due to his speedy Gonzales impersonation.

The most annoying is the R-Agrro from the devil....everyone starts yelling at everyone else like they can control it.

People rarely use the single pull technique on the devil anymore. I'll share it here in case you are running with an under-powered group.

Choose a solid wf tank and an experienced mage for this. (flesh tank + umd scroll heal support works too) Ideally, the tank sneaks up invisible up through the north end of the maze, the devil has the highest listen of all the mobs, so as soon as you see it move sneak back to the northwest corner. If done properly, only the devil will follow. Once the devil has followed you and you are out of line of sight of the rest of the red nameds, you can break invis and start preparing him on the northwest end, where the support player can remain invis as he spams recon or hjeals.

It worked pretty well when we used it back in the day.

Nowadays its just ZOMFG WHO AGGROD EVERYTHING BRING IT SOUTH KILL KILL KILL.

Our guild runs Sabotage Shroud.

This is where one person (chosen randomly after zoning in, to prevent them from overly preparing) is designated the Saboteur, and their job is to make the shroud run fail, using whatever means they see fit.  No holds barred.

Healer?  Ha, don't heal anyone.
Caster?  "What crystal?"
Melee? Kite the devil all over the map in part 2.
etc.

If you can complete a Sabotage Shroud, you can complete any PUG shroud.

+ if your guild actually sucks, you can blame it on the saboteur. Brilliant.

This sounds fun.

How does it work?  Does the party know who the saboteur is?  Or does the leader just send a tell to a random person and say, "you're on".  I want to lead one of these now...

We will occasional designate someone to zerg middle on Part two to see how well people respond under pressure and recover when things go sideways.

Most awesome thing to say over voice chat when you're on crystal duty. As soon as the mobs start dieing...

"Where did the crystal spawn this time? It's not in the center."

To be fair, you announce the saboteur.  In fact, we do a /roll d100, high roll = saboteur.  So everyone knows. Smiley

Please note, you lose chests in part 3, as the saboteur will, of course, not do their puzzle, and will step on the tiles to prevent you from doing it, so you almost always have to shatter their door crystal. Tongue

I can't recall if it was mentioned here or on the main boards but Globe of Invulnerability on Harry can really spice things up.

What you do in part 2 is you aggro everything on the map to the wall until you have dungeon alert red and then you kill it all while someone breaks the crystal.

Wait you don't do it like this? This is how I do every shroud run now
