Just posted this on the forums, and figured I would do it here as well. Be nice

Currently the money set up is
10cp=1sp
10sp=1gp
10gp=1pp
So the money range is 1,000cp=1pp
This setup wouldn't be that bad, but when you are getting 10pp a quest starting in Korthos, and it only goes up from the substantially, the worth of plat quickly becomes minimal.
Now, in a world where a couple platinum pieces would make a poor family pretty well off, being able to sell a single piece of trash to get that seems kind of ridiculous.
Bartering high level items, is really the only way to buy other high level items, because you can't carry enough plat to buy them.
So what I am proposing would be a change in the money system. The two I think could work are these;
10cp-1sp
100sp-1gp
1,000gp-1pp
So the money range list is now 1,000,000cp-1pp a huge difference. Plat would essentially have 1,000x more value then it currently does.
This, I believe, is the setup in the 4.0 rulebooks. (I would have to double check) I think some people might find this way hard to remember, so my other suggested setup is.
100cp-1sp
100sp-1gp
100gp-1pp
This also brings the money range to 1,000,000-1pp as well. Easier to remember. (for some)
I think it would be fairly easy to switch to this.
You can either divide current players plat by 1,000. This wouldn't be perfect, but be a good start off.
You could leave player's money as it is. This would cause prices to stay where they were for now, with it slowly going down as people loose money to the plat sink.
Then there's probably a way to switch all the player's money to copper, then once the switch occurs, switch it back. This could be hard to implement, but would keep a player's worth equal to what it was before.
If course all vendor prices, all quest rewards, and item values would reflect the change. Where before you would get 100gp out of a chest, you would now get 1gp. Instead of paying 35pp for XXXX potion, you would now be paying 3.5gp. Eventually prices will even out, this may even cause a great plat sink as first, as people would post things for the same amount of plat as before, for a little bit I would imagine, then every time one of those items are purchased it's actually 1,000x more of a plat sink as before.
Things wouldn't change too much, once people start posting things at the new prices, however if they left the plat cap at what it currently is, then people could actually start paying for high end items with their plat. The game would probably have to return to the gold standard, but other than that, I don't think there would be a significant downside. It would make a new player getting their first 1,000 plat feel significant, and not just a meh feeling.
Anyways, hope I explained it well. I would also like to here other people's idea to make plat feel more like a world's highest monetary value, and less like silver dollars, that are cool to have, but really aren't worth all that much.
To sum up, the cap currently is 4,300,000pp I believe. So if we do this change, leave the cap where it is, those people sitting at cap would now only have 4,300pp. Currently, this is something you can usually achieve in three days, on a brand new character, with no help. This allows people to carry substantially more money and make having 1,000pp mean something.
