I'm not trying to be overly sensitive, I don't think. I just think that it's a lot easier to make jokes about someone being Puerto Rican when they're a 'less visible' than blacks. I think that if Alex were black and every other post from you and Gunga talked about how he was an ape who wanted a banana and he should either learn how to pick cotton or go back to Africa, this conversation wouldn't be necessary because you would have already been 'community moderated' away from doing so.
In my opinion, at least. Mostly, I'm just saying that it's a really tremendously lazy way to get to a joke and that you're both probably better than that.
What you dont know is that all of Canada including the Quebecquois (who get trashed constantly by Americans on these boards) makes fun of the Maritime Provinces because they are backwards they are like Canada's Southern States, only noone takes them serious because their arent enough of them even if you combined all of their votes to affect politics in Canada
Obviously there are racists in Canada, but the whole culture and immigration philosophy of Canada and the US are different. In the US its the great melting pot where everyone assimilates into American culture, with all its great patriotism and history to be proud of; in Canada its a multicultural society, with 2 official Languages and street signs in some cities in neither of those languages. As much as it annoys me because it doesnt streamline things Canada is based on embracing other cultures, our history though it has some very bright spots is much more humble. We had no war of independance, no civil war, and no indian wars, no race riots. Our dark spots consist of internment camps for Japanese and some of German decent during WW2 and the chinese that built the transCanada railroad under horrible near slave like conditions. Two completely different philosophical indoctrinations between the two countries.
As to being a tremendously lazy way of making a joke absolutly, but its so damn effective there is little need to be better, especially when its used against a dick who says he is superior in every way because he is going to school getting a PhD... the man is hardly suffering trapped beneath the glass ceiling of opportunity.
