Do the Jedi/Sith overpower the other classes? Can a Tropper of like level stand up to a Sith?
Well... YES! absolutely... in fact, its quite even that way... I'm playing as a DPS Smuggler (Gunslinger) and the few pvp arenas I've done I'm constantly in the top 5 for damage output and kills. And that's me not really using all my abilities to anything close to maximum effect... Really need to do some key mapping. And learn to string my abilities in a much more energy efficient manner.

How is the mix of solo play vs. need to group?
There is no need to group at all unless you're doing Heroic missions, flashpoints, or elite level world bosses (never seen one yet).

The much touted Fully Voiced - live up to the hype or not?
The answer is yes and no, I find myself skipping over alot of the sidequest dialogue as its kinda standard heart yanking drivel, but the main quests and even some of the more involved side quests have some brilliant dialogue in them, I very much enjoy those.

Pretty much, I've decided that the combat is something I could live with - if the rest of the game built around it is solid and well made. Also, I need a break from DDO and it's environs. It's gotten stale, and the direction DDO has taken in the back half of '11 has left me cold. I'd love to be engrossed in something new, in other words. All the good things I've been hearing about TOR indicate that it may be that - even though the combat turned me away at first. However, all my questions cannot be answered with my limited exposure to the game... it needs people who've played it for a bit, and delved into the red meat of the game.
Well, like I said... I'm playing a Gunslinger... which seems (from videos) like the more slow and methodical combat classes... however playing it is quite the opposite... Combat definately keeps my interest and the pacing in it is pretty much perfect I think...
Other things to note... being the highest level Gunslinger on my server... I've no idea if this applies to lower levels... but there seems to be a shortage of healers around (though that definately looks like the most boring role, dunno how much button mashing they have to do)...
There's tons of Jedi's running around... and a decent amount of Troopers, ya don't see too many Smugglers though... shame because the main story line is quite fun.
Oh and to sell ya more on the Smuggler... the funnest move I have is to jog up to someone and give them a groin kick... there's something just so satisfying with the animation and sound to it.
Also seeing my wookie companion run forward and start knocking people around is a real treat.
Jawas are cute... can't deny it.
The World design is brilliant... each world I've been to so far has definately had its own flavor and feel to it.
I'll leave off with saying this... WoW, Warhammer Online, Rift, or Guild Wars (back in the day) never really grabbed me... Don't know what it is... something in them just never really meshed well with me... and whatever that thing is, SW:TOR has it.
