I have no idea why he brought that subject on :

http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=357183

But this suggest that there's a major rewrite of the whole game UI planned at some stage.

Or maybe implementing a fixed UI that doesn't explode when you LR? Or tr?

Or maybe an "import UI" function so you can roll up a new toon and have the same UI if you choose?

That would be sweet.
Also, if you could go from playing on  a 32" monitor at home to a 15" laptop on the road, and not have it mess up the positions of all your bars.

This & I hope to see a scalable UI as well.  One thing I miss is that EQ had a function called /viewport which allowed you to change the rendered size of the screen.  Essentially adding a black border to your specifications that you could scale and keep your UI elements off the page and not infringe upon your view of the game.

/viewport

Please, $deity, let this be included.

Does any other MMO have this?

You could have your resolution set to 1280x1024 and then /viewport 0 0 1280 768 and get some nice pixel room at the bottom of the screen for hotbars and chatboxes ensuring that when you looked at the floor you didn't have to click around the UI or /viewport 20 20 1240 984 and get a 20 pixel border around everything to throw hotbars. SOOO useful and versatile as you could position the drawn gamescreen anywhere you wanted within your actual screen but drag UI elements around on the full thing.

Glad someone else actually used this besides me lol.  No, it has never been redone in any game that I've seen.  I think it was a by product of shifting from the 'gray stone' UI to the full screen UI around Velious/Luclin.  Not sure if the designers program this in any longer.  FYI, it still works in EQ as well, checked my account and it is stillllll there.  Cry

stainer taught me a neat trick last night while playing on m laptop.  If you keep your DDO client in Windows mode, it resizes and I don't have to scrunch bars on top of each other while I'm playing!  Haaaay!  These are some of the perks of playing DDO in the same room with stainer.  Also see: teaming up with his wife to gang up on him.

I personally liked the UI import functions that Rift had. Everything was movable, but only in a certain screen mode. You could move and resize everything on your hud, then exit that mode and you wouldn't be able to accidentally grab your hotbar or map and drag it halfway across the screen.

This would make me a happy halfling.

I hate playing in windowed mode so Gawna/Stainer's answer won't work for me.

How do you dual box then?  Lots of Shift+Tab? I have a big enough monitor to where playing in window mode doesn't bother me at all.

That's what kills me.
LotR:O has *exactly that* and it's very well loved.
You smack Ctrl + \ and it shows you what all the windows are, even the invisible ones. You drag them around to your heart's content, then hit the key combo again and your HUD elements CANNOT BE MOVED.

Of course, they don't have the "lock hotbar" that we do in DDO, but you'd think someone would go "That's a great idea! We should write it for DDO!" and then do so. Who knows, maybe they will. I, for one, miss being able to have certain windows pop up in the same place at all times and not having to drag them around every single time.

You can also export and import *most* hotbar/window settings. For some reason you can't do so with ALL of them, but it's better than nothing.

I hid the toolbar and then just resized the client to take up the whole scren, so it didn't even feel like Windows mode.
