Seems like recent abbots (at least on Sarlona) have been filled with a level of failure beyond comprehension, at least while pugging it. I have pugged well over 300 abbots across the years and the rate of failure is consistently going downhill every single week. Here is a compilation of all the shit that has made me laugh or rage happen across my trillion abbot pugs.

Here are some examples:

*Every time I pug an abbot, I still get at least 1-2 clerics who tell me they can DI through Ice. Every fucking time/

*I have had at least 4 people send me tells saying they can do the island puzzle, 2 of those people meant roids and 2 meant ice.. however none of those 4 people could successfully do their puzzle and so we wiped.

*I have heard ice called (from the spotter while calling out his puzzle): island, river, flowing river, wand puzzle, and snowy puzzle (theres no fucking snow in the ice puzzle)

*I have heard goggles called (from the spotter while calling out his puzzle): goggles, void, void space, empty space puzzle, void chasm, empty chasm, chasm puzzle (what is it with people and the word chasm???), dissapearing puzzle, and fading puzzle

*I have heard roids called (from the spotter while calling out his puzzle): roids, rocks, meteor, throwing puzzle, meteor puzzle, island, island puzzle (again yup...), space puzzle, star puzzle

*When I ask people if they can do roids and they tell me an answer like "yeah I can do roids I watched a video" or "yeah its easy i usually pike in roids and watch it a lot" I have them explain to me how they do roids and have heard people tell me the following is the Proper way to do roids:

-Take rocks and throw them above the head of the person "countering their rocks at you" (what the fuck does that even mean?)

-I have had people take roids and run around in a smaller circle running around the place throwing roids in random directions which of course, led to failure..

-And many more things I cannot recall. Roids is the puzzle that fails the most even though I require it to be known for my abbot groups. The excuses and people that end up doing roids is fucking unbelievable.


Goggles is always interesting. I dont get as many people tell me they can do goggles hang (now with it being removed) but still 1-2 people every couple of runs. The worst things I have seen in goggles are Favoured Souls lining up to do goggles and then using wings unexpectedness and falling. I mysel have done this (3) times on my fvs.

Ice is pretty boring. The only times I Have gotten a laugh out of ice failure is when the other person misses the first fucking platform. I have even had this happen with someone with over 500 hp so even though they mised the first platfom and could have EASILY jumped back they swam around for a solid 10 seconds as if they were a fucking pool having fun swimming around. Of course when you die in ice you lose your ice wand so all hope is lost.


Well anyway these have been just a few of the crazy things in my abbot runs. Really the only things I could remember well are the crazy names people give for puzzles when they spot and/or tell me what puzzles they can do.

Anyway I put the more funny/interesting shit up top because I know the average attention span of a vault reader is probably... like 4 and a half seconds so if you read all of this then you deserve nothing because your on the vault wasting time that could probably have been better spent starting at a wall or running a 55 minute shroud pug with 12 lvl 20's who take roll call in part 3 as to who can solve the puzzles. Ok bye, incoming "cool story bro", "tldr", or "wow that was a fucking waste of my time to read fuck you" posts. Bye.

You can still solo ice by throwing the island as far away from you as possible - the magic ball thing travels slowly, and the timer for the island starts when it forms, not when it gets cast.

* Spotter calling out the wrong door. (That is, one of the spotters went through the correct door but then called out the wrong direction when calling out what puzzle they got. Leads to massive confusion very quickly especially if people already started going through doors.)

* Not breaking the first sarcophagus in ice.

* Going into roids and /sleeping right away when there are still boulders on the ground.

* The obvious, going into the wrong puzzle.

* Taking a res and running back to Abbot right away, instead of quaffing some pots to resist up or something. Life expectancy: About 3 seconds. We stopped ressing after the 5th time.

I wouldn't mind people piking the raid if they at least contributed in other ways like donating pots or something. But PUGs generally just roll on all the loot (OR generally does not distinguish between guildie or PUG for loot), loot them, then leave without saying a word, after screwing up their puzzle or role and being a mana sponge and/or a soulstone, so nowadays we're not inclined to take PUGs into Abbot.

Anyway. It's pretty silly to call the puzzle with the invisible tiles and the goggles "goggles" instead of, say, "tiles".
The latter allows for a distinction between "tiles goggles" and "tiles no goggles".

On some servers, the usual way to do roids is to stand in a circle, faced towards the center, and aiming above the head of the person looking at you. This is probably what the quote in the OP meant.

The only thing that I can think of is that some older gimp players are coming back to the game and not bothering to read up on the changes?

I've noticed a lot of failed abbots, recently, myself; it's gotten so bad that I've even had to run tiles, which I am not so good at (we made it though).

Many groups are uncomfortable letting dark monks run ice, since you run the risk of screwing up your water walk and dying.

There is no excuse for failing roids, not since they made it possible without hanging off the edge of the platform

TL;DR.

I exclusively PUG Abbot, on Sarlona.

I've been running with American Infidels PUGs lately.

The puzzles go smooth as hell, generally, though ice misfires do happen sometimes. Infidels always do goggles and they haven't failed a goggles since 13.1.

The wipes I see are 100% in the main Abbot fight. A few too many people die in the first inferno, DPS is lacking just a little too much, and it's all down hill from there.

IMO the better puggers can get through puzzles fine, it's the abbot fight where they need to shape up. (OMG you should see some of the damned "abbot beaters" the melees link. +2 light hammers of disruption, fresh off the AH.)

Sounds like OP is mostly just complaining about noobs, which since OP is Zonixx is not surprising

If you take damage while water walking, you have to make a concentration check. Fail and it deactivates. I don't have a monk, but I think you can jump over the darts if careful.

I also need to figure out FRAPS a little better.  My
