My shitty Pale master - feats? (Read 5351 times)

	I love wraith form, at times it's really handy to be almost invulnerable between the 25% incorporal and displacement (Evon6 for example) but those times are really few and far between. I think it's about time I drop the crutch that is Mental Toughness. The question is . .. what feat to take in it's place? She's a 34-pointer with a wizzy PL, I cannot afford to drop the spell pen feats. buffed (with yugos) 44 Necro DC, 627 HP. I have the below (and forgive the order, I'm pretty sure that's not the order I actually took them levelling up). . . Level 1 (Wizard) Feat: (Selected) Empower Spell Feat: (Wizard Bonus) Extend Spell Feat: (Past Life) Past Life: Wizard Feat: (Human Bonus) Toughness Level 3 (Wizard) Feat: (Selected) Past Life: Arcane Initiate Level 5 (Wizard) Feat: (Wizard Bonus) Maximize Spell Level 6 (Wizard) Feat: (Selected) Mental Toughness Level 9 (Wizard) Feat: (Selected) Insightful Reflexes Level 10 (Wizard) Feat: (Wizard Bonus) Spell Focus: Necromancy Level 12 (Wizard) Feat: (Selected) Greater Spell Focus: Necromancy Level 15 (Wizard) Feat: (Wizard Bonus) Heighten Spell Feat: (Selected) Spell Penetration Level 18 (Wizard) Feat: (Selected) Greater Spell Penetration Level 20 (Wizard) Feat: (Wizard Bonus) Quicken Spell So if I dropped it . . . what to take in it's place?

	On a quick glance, I don't see anything obvious missing. SF: Enchant would be the default, safe choice.

I had that first life and my Ench DCs (41?) was fine, with Wizzy PL it makes up the difference. My holds/ball lands fine so I'm not sure it's worth the feat.

	I hated mine, Junk. Had two. I'm on my fourth savant and I love em. Doing an earth savant right now and having a good time. After my second pale master, for my third wiz life, I went arch mage. It was almost like a sorc, just not as good.

I'm a big fan of DC-casting and wizzies work better for me. That said I've never played a sorc so I won't know until I try it. Some day when my current stable are all level 25 with maxed-out Epic Destinies I'll try one.

	I like my PM a lot, as good or better than sorc for scroll farming among other things. I will be trying air/water savant to see if I can get good enough DCs with better nuking, though.

No-fail heal-scrolls and amp keep her alive and much of the power of that toon exists between the keyboard and the chair.

	The problem with 'no fail' heal scrolls is no quicken. You're still incredibly more vulnerable than a WF or a PM. I may try a human life but it seems entirely too vulnerable. I have pretty excellent gear and a +4 cha tome, so I'm expecting I can hit 42ish on a WF. Haven't done the math though, not thinking about it until I get my 20 abbots finished off.

	If you could drop one spell pen take shield mastery. (yes I know you said you couldn't do this) Otherwise...for a single feat I don't really see anything useful besides a spell school feat or skill focus UMD.

	If I drop a spell pen feat I'll still see the blue thingies in stuff like EDA and eChrono, that's not an option. I actually want MOAR spell spen, not less I'll probably just leave it be for now.

	I'd want Shield Mastery AND wraith, awesome together. Physical DR is icing and spell pen is cake though, dropping Spell Pen when your pen is already that low is not a good idea.

	Drop Extend or Empower and Mental Toughness for Shield Proficiency and Shield Mastery. Extend: I've just tried leveling a PM life without this and it hasn't bothered me (though no torc). I've expecting on my other PM with torc/conc-opp etc that I can deal without it (the only reason I have it is for Death Aura). Empower: This is getting nerfed to hell in U14 anyway and the only spell you really need it for now anyway is NEB; for general DPS maximise is fine. I'd actually drop Extend and Empower first for shield mastery just to make tanking some epic bosses a little easier (in wraith form).

For raid dps not having empower is not fine, at least right now. Empower adds a huge amount of DPS if what you're nuking has even a small amount of elemental resistance. Plus the wiz capstone + a couple points in improved empower enhancement + maybe an empower item makes it nice and mana efficient.

	Shield mastery on a caster ain't gonna be worth shit next mod. Gonna drop Empower and Maximize and either take SF/GSF Enchantment. The nuking feats just aren't gonna pay off and charming/holding stuff will.

I disagree with "it's getting nerfed" as a reason for avoiding Shield Mastery. If you can't grab a flawless Siberys dragonshard off the AH, then you can just TR again and more Wizard past lives = better character in this case, so "it's retarded" is the only valid reason to avoid it in my mind. Not sure if it's enough of a reason, but it certainly is valid.
