Suggestions for training runs

This open beta stuff is pissing me off so much I need to think about something else.

So! I am going to offer some training/flagging/loot runs in LFMs to new players that used the stone of xp. I figure they're undergeared and not flagged and will be out of their depths unless they run through some of the content they missed, and it will be tough to find groups when they're so overlevel. Sure, they could make their own or solo, but we're talking about new players here. And while I'm most definitely not the most knowledgeable player, I've run through enough of the content that I can probably act as a freebie tour guide. You get what you pay for.

Anyway, I was thinking about the following:

VoN (basically for flagging purposes)
Restless Isles (same reason)
Threnal (ugh Coyle, but they should have a mantle if they want to TR ever)
Sands (flagging and some gear)
Lordsmarch/Attack on Stormreach (gear, can probably skip some I think)
GH (flagging)

Anything else they can manage to hit at lvl 16 I think. My question is, are there any single quests you think are super important for gear or other reasons that I'm missing? Are there ones you would take off the above list for whatever reason?

Tobril has actually run some training raids on Sarlona.  He posted an announcement on the forums and filled both from there and from a chat channel he created for new players.  He may have some good advice on setting stuffs like this up.  In general though I think this could be a pretty good idea Grace.

All that stuff is a bit little for 16's.

Lordsmarch if they need toys, then vale/IQ/challenges.

Bonus points for orchard and amrath.

But the point is kinda that they can grab groups for those things on their own. Right now, some of them jumped from 8 to 16 with no gear and no knowledge at all. They aren't ready for the at-level stuff.

I get what you're saying about getting toys,
and generally applaud your efforts to help others.

Unfortunately the sands, restless isles, and
von are grindy as hell and the base items mostly suck.

Lordsmarch has stuff that is good enough bridge gear
even up to baby epics.  IQ/DD has spell absorption
and other nice toys.  Challenge gear and cannith sets
are also easy to get with little effort and will perform
well enough until getting the big stuff.

The key to gearing up new characters and players is
going after the really easy stuff that closely resembles
the bigger versions.  Many times the slotting is identical,
which helps a lot.  (think fabricators to claw set)

I would also run them through VoD.  That raid is the
best imo for learning concepts that will help out pretty
much with any end-game stuff they can beg their way into.

Let me look, I might be able to do it for you.

ETA: Meh, I can only get you a silver flame shard, but if you want it I'll toss it in the mail.

If you tell some to be the dom, it doesn't really mean you're a sub.

I am guessing it is part of your evil plan to lure unsuspecting noobs with your sub routine until you get them all together and then spring your dominance on them. Then you will feast on their tears of anguish.

I've been trying to catch her on Sarlona to get her a level and stoned too...  So far we've not connected though.  It might have something to do with me laying at stupidly late hours once my warden is asleep...

My bard just leveled to 16 (that's right, I forgot to hold at 15), and I have absolutely no clue how to play a 16th level bard.  I might not be on tonight, though, because I have to get up really damn early tomorrow for golf.

If they are truly new, please do them and everyone on the server a favor and make sure they all know the relative importance of Heavy Fort and extra HP's.   Smiley
If they have the Necro IV pack, then showing them how to do tapestry runs for a Minos might be a good call.

I think you're wasting your time.  People don't suck because they don't know the quest, they suck because they don't want to put in any f'n effort into gearing their toons or actually learning basics on how this game works.  There's a huge amount of resources on the forum available for any new player that wants to improve their game, and taking some time to read is far more effective.

Newbs need to learn basics; they need to learn how to learn a quest, and not just learn content which wont even be run in about a months time.

i'd rather put an lfm up on my multi geared/tr'd bluebar open to pugs, zerg the quest, leave thier soulstones, then ridicule them all for being noobs before ragequitting, and filling another.

or they can read the quest wiki, make a 1st time running lfm and just figure it out.

There's a really awesome post that Flint made on the Loreseekers forums about the gear that everyone should be expected to have regardless of class (i.e. cure pots, curse pots, lesser resto pots, heavy fort at x level, mod fort for WF at level y, etc.).  I think that would probably be more helpful than just running them through some quests.  If they don't understand what's going to be expected of them when they get into other groups where they're not getting their hand held, it's going to be a giant waste of time.
