Kerbal Space Program

Been spending all my spare time playing this gem of a game recently.
It's basically got parts to the game... first being you build rockets and spaceships... and the second being you fly them in a space simulator with realistic (but toned down, as in its not easy but its not near as hard as real life would be) physics.
The game is in Alpha but you can still purchase it from their site and play... its a very minecraft business model that way.
Currently, I'm trying to master my trips to the Mun (moon) and back... Sent one kerbal successfully there... but didn't have the fuel to bring him back, so he's stranded... and the subsequent rescue missions have all failed leaving 10 kerbals stranded in 4 different locations all over the Mun.

congratz
just getting them little fucks on the way to the moon is hard enough. I have yet to land on it, much less try to get them back.

Did you make orbit? and if so... how long did it take?

Haven't really had a whole lot of face time with it, tbh. Furthest I've gotten so far's still sub-orbital (Well, we are, presumably, not counting driving so far into the ground the game crashes, right?)
(Always tricky to line up center of mass, center of lift, and center of boost just right. I'd kill for an engineering layout like 3dsMax/Blender ect.)

The thing is addictive... I've downloaded the free version and tinkered with it a bit.
I almost made it to orbit.
But the really great thing is to build weird rockets and see how far they are going to climb before blowing up.

I almost managed it too, but I fucked up due to my N+3 powerpoint on the other screen and missed the right time for reorient and thrust for orbital insertion. So my Kerbals just came down after a loooooong flight in space.

The demo is just an older version of the game... there's a decent amount more stuffs in the non-demo version... and considering this is still in alpha... the final product is gonna be just plain wicked.
From what I've heard the next thing they're adding is sampling from other planets to bring home and analyze. There's also gonna be re-entry heat, and I think 2 more Gas Planets (with more moons) and an Asteroid belt.
That's on top of what's there in the non-demo version... I think in the Demo there's really not alot of options for places to go... whereas even in 18.2 well... here...

Did ya have enough fuel to get them back?
I'm still having fuel issues after landing on the mun... Gonna have to redesign my whole lander concept from scratch.

Decided to download the demo after my lunch break. Fourth design got me to orbit. Surprisingly fun.

Depends on your objective :
- Get your Kerbals to the Mun and beyond
- Experiment with weird spaceship concepts.
- Waste time at work doing things not work related while not being too obvious about it.

5th rocket missed the mun (poor piloting on my part) so I'm now in a solar orbit. The apoapsis still intersects the planet on roughly the same orbital plane though, so hopefully it'll eventually get close enough to get captured by the planet.
Update: 6 months in space. We had to eat Jebediah.

Got some Kerbals into polar orbits today, the only problem is that they were not recoverable, so now Kerbal ( the planet ) has an artificial satellite.
I also killed about 18 kerbalstronauts in various failed launch of a Mk III rocket. ( too high, not structurally solid enough, or short and unbalanced, or first stage not powerful enough to lift off... take your pick in a few occurrences my kerbals survived )
well tomorrow I'll experiment the 'many thrusters in one stage' kind of rockets.
Today it was the 'smokepole' rocket.

Are you guys playing the demo or full version? I played the demo for about 2 hours last night and ALMOST got into orbit, but I didn't take enough fuel to burn to get myself into a proper orbit. And if I put too many solid fuel boosters, my ship just blows up on the launchpad.

Demo also, my current rocket is command capsule, SAS module, RCS thrusters and tank, separator, fuel tank with large engine, separator, 5 stacks of 7 tanks radially on 7 large engines. Full thrust til I break atmosphere then controlled burns to aim trajectory.

Don't fret too much... took me like 4 hours to get to orbit the first time. And then 4 more hours before I could orbit properly (as in on the same plane as all the planets) each time i tried.
The game isn't easy... once you master one thing, there's yet another challenge just waiting for ya.
