Never played, but heard some neat stuff about it.
This reddit post was a fantastic read though. Estimated RL $17k in goods lost in the battle.

One Titan pilot misclicks, and a trillion ISK goes boom.
Other than that MMO that got accidentally deleted, this is probably the biggest misclick in gaming history.

Wow. I've read some very interesting things about EVE... they seem to have achieved a truly living virtual world.

I read an article about this battle from the perspective of their operations team. They actually have alarms when this type of battle starts up. They clear the server by moving other systems off of the battle server. It is pretty awesome.

I started playing this 2 days ago. Its...different. After putting a year into Jumpgate a decade ago, playing a few D&D type games, its a world onto itself. I have been told several time to not trust players, and even reading on their forums, its a nasty world.
Frog on all servers, but Cannith is home.

I'm intrigued, but it's definetly supposed to be hard core pvp in all kinds of ways. I read some of Mittani's stuff on tentonhammer too.

Eve is unbelievably immersive and super-addictive. I played for a while and had to stop it was becoming consuming. It really is a virtual universe and the entire economy is player driven. It's an amazing example of how to do things right in terms of economy and crafting. It's a living world that actually morphs and changes based on the players actions. It's also an anything goes world. There is no such thing as griefing. Anything goes...here's another example...

I just got that impression after you spent 13 pages calling out eladiun for being an interwebs bully when anyone who's been posting on here already knew that. I mean, he's proud of it and hardly tries to hide that at all.

I did a search and found that there about 400 tech moons in the game, and since the CFC and HBC effectively control half each, thats 200 per side. Each moon mines approximately 14 billion isk a month, so 2,800,000,000,000 isk per month for each faction. Going back to 531 million = to $15 we can say then that each side is making $79,000 per month.
Wow...

Oh yes, Eve is dangerous. I know a couple of players and they will often trade RL items for ISK.

Back when I played (2004-2008), at times when buddies took a break or left the game they would give me their account data and I would pay for those accounts with ISK...
Highest I had was 10 accounts, back then 30day was ~350mil ISK, it basically became a 2nd job.
It had it's perks ofc, I was one of the first (5th or 6th) to pilot a Titan.

The game is just a front for a super-addictive virtual world of bastardry, backstabbing and (much rarer) front-stabbing.
The fun isn't in setting clever traps for other players. The true fun is reacting when someone has set a trap for you. EVE is at its best when you and two corpmates face six opponents that got the jump on you.
The times you escape from that are legendary.

Played it a few times over the years... Its very complex and diverse in what you can do and what kind of "space pilot" you can be.
I always end up leaving though... The "meta" game of it is all about corporations, which just puts me right off. Give me noble causes or villainous motives, of nations and causes... but dress them in Corporate clothes and blah... not interested in being "loyal" to a corporation.
One of my quirks.

and no this is not an exaggeration, if anything that is playing it down
A corp is basically nothing but a guild by a different name, back when I played there were learning corps which explained the game to you since the tutorial really did fuck

That was epic.
They did improve the tutorials somewhat recently. What's harder is figuring out what to do after completing the second wave of tutorials as there are so many options and none of the usual directions.
