Anyone watch it?

I thought it was pretty good and I really liked the music scores.  The battle sequence was kind of lame, but my biggest gripe was that the characters are so cookie cutter, you can almost taste the dough.  Everything from the main character to the token black guy was just so cliche.

I've been jonesing for a good sci fi series, but my guess is that it'll flop harder than terra nova.  I'll still watch it though.  The phrase "better than nothing" comes to mind.

I liked but then I don't care if shit is cliche or whatnot. I thought the story was interesting, will have to see more episode before I make up my mind about it.

At the very least it looks like it may fill a sci fi void now that fringe is gone but  I am more keen on seeing Falling Skies start back up.

Airs on modnays.  I recommend downloading the HD version if you don't get it though.

Looks like Syfy is rerunning it a million times this week so I setup the DVR to record it.

Thanks.

The big question is why the hell is this in DDO-specific?

The only part of it that really bugged me was when the guy is driving in the beginning. It's immediately obvious that he has no idea how to actually drive.

The rest was pretty cheesy and predictable, but it worked out alright for a pilot. I'll check out a few more episodes.

disappointment abounds in Defiance. It was boring and predictable. I think syfylys could have cut their budget by 80% if they purchased cardboard cutouts of the actors instead of paying them for the dreck they put up on the screen.

Based on the premier Defiance looks to be a weak-sister clone of other shows of a similar ilk. Falling skies, which has its own problems is a much better show.

Hope they can turn it around because it does have promise but its definitely not a much watch show.

I mostly agree.
But I'm holding out hope that there was simply too much that they wanted to get across in the pilot and that this is the reason things were so muddy.  The show does have promise, but because of all the cliches it only has promise if done right.  I wasn't impressed with the pilot, but I'm reserving judgement for a few episodes.

I'll give it another chance, too. The pilot was awful wrt storyline, like a cobbled-together video game backstory (with a "Romeo and Juliet" subplot...really?). I liked "Farscape" so I expected better from Rockne S. O'Bannon.

Dunno if you noticed but almost every show on tv is predictable.

Yeah, but some of them are funny, anyway. This one isn't, so far.

Episode 2 was better.  It felt like they didn't try too hard and was just a lot less pretentious and cliche than the first.  The best part was the last 5 minutes.  They played a Nirvana cover that just fit really well.  It was very well done.  The music is whats making this show for me.

The Nirvana Cover was unique, and my wife thought it odd, but she liked it.

The show is perfect for the cheesy scifi lover that I am.

Its like sid meyers alpha centauri done to Earth.

I was sort of hoping for more of a Farscape on Earth...or an outside chance of Firefly on Earth.

It was predictable because it was less sci-fi and more soap opera.  How many concurrent dysfunction-assured relationships can be dealt with at once, and how many times will they entwine with others before spiraling back into themselves?  Only time will tell? Nope.  As The World Turns meets crappy sci-fi writers.

After watching the second episode this is what I was thinking, a soap with a sci-fi setting. Then it reminded me of the old tv show Alien Nation but with a post apocalyptic setting.

Hope it gets better.
