If you like boardgames, the best new one I have played in recent years was Arkham Horror.  It is set in the Cthulhu mythos, and you are trying to prevent the return of some of the Great Old Ones.  You have a choice of several characters and the game flows very well once you have played through a few turns.  There are times you are on earth and also times that you are going through gates to other places to get resources to prevent the returns. My wife and I played it at DragonCon and had to buy it, so we did and have not regretted the price point at all.  There are apparently several expansions for it as well, but we haven't tried them yet.

I see Vassal as awesome and horrible at the same time.  Awesome because people across the world can play games together, and horrible because the game developers never see a penny from it..

Well, for my defense, I have to say I always buy the games anyway...
Actually I don´t think they lose money. The kind of person that plays this game tries to play it on a table, and usually buys it (and sometime just because the shinies). Only when you live 2000 miles from your friends you use this Vassal.
IMHO.
