LMAO wildstar is back in beta for their f2p launch.

I'm not going to fault them for honesty.

So, I replaced an amd phenom2 3.3gig with an i5-4690k o/c to 4.3gig. I used the same 1600mghz ram and 650ti gpu. Performance increase in wildstar was quite simply amazing. Framerates in crowded areas with amd chip was 10-20, graphics settings on medium/low. With the intel chip it went to 50, graphics settings on ultrahigh, 1920x1080.

This lack of amd optimization has been hurting this game since launch. An unfulfilled promise the dev's made back in closed beta...

There's a lot of good things about it. I hear the raiding is really something, but I'm stuck at attunement waiting for a queue to pop. The housing is very well done. The run to cap is a single player faceroll. The combat is active, all about movement, but it lacks a lot of the finesse that DDO had - weapon variations, clickies, scrolls, wands, potions, etc. As a result, the combat feels fun at first but wears off after a while. This may change once you get to raiding.

PvP seems fairly active, though I've not dabbled.

The humble bundle E3 pack(june 15-19) has standard edition of wildstar w/1 month of game time. Its supposedly for charity so any amount will get you the code. Expires dec 15th, so you could pick it up for 1 buck and start a month before f2p transition to get any transition goodies companies typically give out.

That's awesome. I've been waiting to get Wildstar because a friend made me get ESO for ps4 instead but I'm still looking forward to get it.

Oh and btw, don't get ESO for ps4.

It has been pretty fun. I've only been testing the different caster classes so far up to level 13ish since I'm waiting for my friend who I play mmos with to come back to progress so I can't really commentate on a lot of things.

The combat and the gameplay in general is fast and super responsive kinda like in DDO (like it seemed to be on their dev speaks), I like how you can zerg the whole place, CC the big mob chasing you for 5 seconds to pull that lever or open that gate and keep running. It makes leveling super fast.

About bad things, the population seems to be pretty low like I mentioned. When I played on the PvP server for the dominion it felt like I was alpha testing the game or something, I didn't find a single person online for about 2 days in the main dominion city, I was like wtf.

Also, the World of Warcraft similarities are everywhere, not the bad things tho since the gameplay is fun and the questing doesn't make you want to commit suicide but they're noticeable, mostly the UI and the PvP which seem to be structured exactly like WoW's.

If you do end up coming to the PvE exile side, let me know. I have a toon full of 13-slot no-ML unbound bags.

No min level. 13 slots Smiley

Send a "bags" PM to Namessa Nekid from the toon you want me to send them to.

Also, it sounds like you have some toons in the level range of my lower end chars (15-20). Let's get together and faceroll some content.

the more I look at Wildstar the more it looks like it might be pretty fun.

How much more robust are the graphics requirements than DDO run at a decent resolution?

More or less the same, I'd say.

It does have a lot of fun elements, but it suffers from a lot of issues that plague MMOs nowadays. Some examples:

1) Every class plays damn near the same. Oh, sure, your abilities vary a little bit, but in the end, you set up a rotation and stick to it and play every class more or less the same. As to why, see number 2:

2) Single player game all the way to cap. Sure, there are some group things to do, but they just get in the way of leveling. What this really means is that you will be playing a DPS character all the way to cap. Want to be a healer? Too bad, DPS. Want to tank? Too bad, DPS. Want to be a controller? Too bad, DPS. This leads us to number 3:

3) There is no one to be found except at end game. Leveling up, you will rarely see anyone, particularly if you choose the wrong server/faction (anything but PvE/Exile will be a wasteland, which sucks because Dominion is so much cooler). This isn't such a big deal while leveling, but when you get to end game and need to attune before you can raid, and there's no one to group with for the group-required quests, you end up like me: stuck for months on one step of attunement, hoping a queue will pop. Arguably less of a problem for a more social player (I'm not a big fan of guilds, but a good one would make attunement a breeze).

Don't get me wrong, you should try it out for yourself - there are a lot of good elements. Housing is awesome (and this is coming from a guy who generally doesn't give a rat's ass about housing), crafting is in-depth and well fleshed-out, economy is strong and well managed, combat is action-packed and focused on movement (once you're in groups, at least), hoverboards are cool, double-jump is cool, sprinting is cool (and soon to be a lot cooler as it will have no meter out of combat). Professions - side aspects to your class - are interesting, useful, fun, and more of a side benefit of questing than a chore of leveling.

If you do decide to sign up, let me know so I can send you a starter package - some plat and bags and whatnot.

wildstar needs a better graphics card than the one you would normally use for ddo. for reference, I had a Gforce 8600 gt and it ran like shit (15 fps) now I have a GTx 750 and it runs just as good as DDO at 1680x1050 resolution

cool thanks for the info. sounds like i'd have to upgrade the gaming PC (which is currently a 1 year old MacBook Pro) before I'd be able to run Wildstar very well

Alas, It is not quite so simple. Wildstar code was never optimized for multiple cores.(and never will be) Intel chips are much better for single core processing as such, they can handle wildstar.

While it is true low end graphics cards don't work well, they normally are not the problem.

strake, you notice how carbine locks so many threads that their forum has died. Even their paladins have entropied away.

I haven't spent enough regular time there to understand why, but their forums are quite dead, that's for sure. Only board ever active is general discussion, and that's pretty low activity. I think the Vault may have more traffic... that's pitiful.

Had no idea it was due to their moderation tactics.

I fucking love how you can jump to just about everywhere without any invisible walls stopping you. I just wasted an hour swimming in the outer side of Whitevale until I reached Olyssia on the dominion side, I can see myself spending 90% of my time exploring the map and 10% actual questing just like in DDO lol.
