No idea what that is. I never heard of bearshare if that's what it was until I found it on my machine, i'm not even sure it is right, it was bear something though. Pretty sure that's what it was, but is gone now and can't double check.

Virus scans have consistently come up with no bugs, but all the fucking network connections that were running through my firewall were fucking astounding.

I would get online and pause my AVP and I get an option to end all network connections and usually always had 20+ open connections.


Right now I have 2 with only Thevault open in my current session.

If you want your mind *blown* get a program called process monitor (same deal - was 3rd party got bought) - it will show you every message that your system processes - to use it right you need to filter out everything but the program you are trying to watch - seriously just a few minutes of messages unfiltered is too much to sort through.

It's much more difficult to extract info from - but very very valuable if you are trying to restrict rights (We try to narrow down rights for apps at work and sometimes figuring out what registry key is trying to be updated so we can tweak access to *just that key* is important).

Those messages are what Windows uses to pass info and generate events (such as 'your mouse moved' - or 'you clicked') and the program then has to handle them or pass the message to yet another app or the OS itself.

Even if you never need to really use it - opening that sucker and seeing the amount of crap that Windows processes in the background *constantly* is both mind blowing, and revelatory as you start to understand why stupid little things can cascade into a crash.
