Great thread! So true, and such a problem at Turdbine.
NWO may not have much to offer hard core gamers, but their community management approach is way better. In 3+ years of playing DDO I never once saw a staff member in game, and I've chatted with Sominator twice in the last month. I know others have played with DDO staff, but nobody I know personally has first hand experience. And they get their release notes out before the patch, and get status updates every 60-90 minutes during down time.
And the problem goes far beyond Tolero and Cordovan. Compare how Glin interacts with the forum to how Ryan Dancey (sp? too lazy to check), the CEO of Goblinworks, interacts with the community in Pathfinder Online. He's got a blog every 2 weeks where he shares his vision for the game, and he answers questions in a polite and thorough manner from fans and detractors alike. He's willing to change direction in the face of a compelling argument, and he is willing to provide reasoning for his decisions.
I imagine when you have such a huge backlog of terrible decisions it's hard to face the music and start talking with your community, but Glin really needs to put on his big boy pants and get Turdbine staff involved.
Jerry has joined a couple of my groups in the past, although it probably was before he polymorphed into Cordovan. He seemed nice enough, made a few decent jokes, and even contributed some kills. He didn't stick around past the first couple of quests though, as I don't think he enjoyed our zerging playstyle. Although I disagree with a lot of his moderation, he was cool in game.
I haven't checked out Pathfinder Online yet, but the guys who make the Hackmaster game are also very forthcoming with their information. You can ask questions on their forums and usually get a good response from Jolly Blackburn or one of the other top guys in a reasonably quick amount of time.
