I've been away from the game for a year. played many other mmos and came back. ddo is the greatest game... when it works.
It starts with the small things: latencies and bugs that i saw in no other game (even those game had a bigger player base), schedule maitnance taking the longest than any other game and it is the most frequent, downtimes are now almost 2 times a week.
the costumer service of turbine are, sorry on the harsh words, incapable of understanding that they are here to serve the costumers. they just throw a "nothing we can do" and close the bugs/tickets.
I aws in ddo 6 years before my break. I thought - this is an mmo - it relies on network, servers and such and that's the way things are. But once i saw how other games perform, I am now amazed. is turbine really that incompetant? can't they really do a better job? it's not just a player who complaints about the game being buggy, this is a matter of simple comparsion to other games.
Tech-wise, ddo should not be so heavily lagged all the time. there is no reason. I played turbine's lotro and it is at much better state than ddo.
maybe ddo brings less money, i dont know, but one thing's for sure:
Turbine, you better pray that no one else will release a game so close to Pen-and-Paper, cause the day that will happen, no one will return to your game.
