Yes, this is the kind of shit us old farts had to live through to bring you a world where gaming is a multi-billion dollar business, Hollywood is tripping all over itself trying to buy the rights to comics, and gaming/comic conventions actually have decent-looking women at them.

Ok, It may be because I am from the most atheistic state in the world (to top it, we also have the best beer in the world and beautiful women Smiley ), but I cant believe that this attitude was really widespreaded in the past, right?

Just a few weirdos (something like Jehova witnesses) were publishing this via some specialized tv channel without any real impact on the majority, correct?

So very much true.

There's also the Murican Method of sticking to one's guns - a concept I derived from the informative television series "How I Met Your Mother." An American will state something as fact and, when proven incorrect, will maintain his/her "fact" and resort to cussing and verbally abusing whoever proved him/her wrong.

They also make fun of the French a lot and claim to consume large amounts of alcohol where, in truth, is merely the usual daily alcohol consumption of a 10-year old in other parts of the world.

I'm from the midwest U.S. and when I got into D&D around 1989 people told my mom it would lead to Satanism and all that garbage spread by the Chick tracts

Luckily my mom thinks for herself and said my friends could come over to play D&D.  She sat in the other room watching TV (listening in on us). 
Once she saw what a dorky, silly, fun game it was she would just laugh when people would talk bad about it and try to educate them. 
I got some odd reactions from people when I talked about D&D in those early days so I kept quiet about it for years.
During the 90s the tone shifted to seeing it as nerdy geek stuff, but some people still saw it as unholy until after gaming became mainstream about 10 years ago.
