You know iv'e never looked at the word twice or other words or names like it untill I saw that thread, I wouldn't blink if it was was used in its proper context, now maybe that has changed.

Is it a cultural thing? I know quite a few military service people, current and ex and iv'e never gotten the vibe that they think I owe them. Even the ones who I do not know but have met have never seemed to give that impression. The only place iv'e encountered it is online, like on the DDO forums, and in RL with some people from the U.S who where bring drunk and being dicks, harassing the female patrons who I threw out who dropped the whole I served in blah blah you can't treat me like this!!

Though I think they where most likely bsing and I think quite a few people online do the same thing to, bs about military service or whatever for preferential treatment or to act like their opinion means more than someone else's.

sure it might if it was talk about military matters or life in the military because of their experience if they are not lying or making more of it than it actually is. For example they did some boot camp and dropped out then later claim they where in....

Also, it's not like anyone here would actually use this word properly IRL.  Usage has declined 5-10x in a century.  The only synonyms in less popular usage than niggardly are "mingy" and "chintzy"

Also im not in the u.s so why should I have to change the language I use? The words have no relation to each other in their formation, I still do not see what the whole big deal is. If it is used in its proper context then there should be no problem. The type of ignorance that spawn racism of that sort is now ironically taking over this line of thinking. I see it as a victory for bad intentions as bad intentions seem to have more power over logic and reason. All we need is for more ignorant and spiteful people to come up with more slurs so that more words can in the future become evil words.

If I had seen the real N word I would of had a totally different reaction.

I think that there are some white people who take it on themselves to be offended for the rest of us, like they have to champion us the non-white people and in a way some of the things they do are insulting. In fact I find some of the motivations for some of that type of behavior in some to have some racist overtones. Back to the old colonial days where the white people had to take care of the childlike primitive natives who where less advanced. Bunch of tripe, so its more ok for dark people to be less educated and have less knowledge about the english language even if they have been brought up with it being their first language? Why do they believe that is? They think that given equal opportunities we cannot be as successful as  white people? That we are always going to need that paternal white person to always go and hide behind?

No, because there's no synonym for that proper noun.  There are tons of more useful synonyms for the word "niggardly" that are less likely to lead to confusion or possibly offend someone.  So even from just a practical point of view of communicating properly, it's better to use a word like "miserly" or "stingy" which everyone knows the meaning for.
