Hey guys.

I don't normally do GOP solo, but circumstances now require it.

Got the brothers sorted, but Cholthuzz is causing me grief.
I've not had time to look at the debuffs as they disappear when I die.
I think I see an incap debuff, but the strange thing is I can still run around, I just can't do any actions (and there is no shelter from his beams).  This includes attacking, casting or taking pots.  So I just seem to run around until I die.

I assume it is the CON debuff, so will either cast Restoration or get some of the pots Munk recommended.
Any other tips or tricks from you GOP vets?

I tried circling but it didn't seem to achieve anything.  His eye eyebeam mapping didn't appear to be limited to any specific arc?
Are there any ledges that are useful?

Playing at cap Pally on EH if it helps.

Thanks guys.

plis/spell absorption helps. resto pots/ scrolls... or hey, play a pm.

And yes, when one of your abilities hit 0, you can no longer fight nor cast spells (try playing Redfang the Unruled some time). I forget now if you can drink pots. I think you can't, so need to keep your con above 0 or your screwed.

Standing underneath Choltz makes it harder for him to target you, and just beat him down fast enough, and you'll be fine.

Or again, play a pm. They're immune to the con damage.

Restoration is pally lvl 4 spell.
No need to swap. Good to raise your Con a bit, Tenser, Primal Scream.
40 - 50 Con on any capped toon gives you time to press that Quickened Restoration.

Imo best way to do end fight is to nuke/ fury him from the air while feather falling. His range isn't long enough to hit you when you're falling. Or maybe he just doesn't look up.

Restoration pots from Eveningstar commendation turn-ins are the BEST for doing GoP. Just don't forget to use them before your Con hits 0.

Also, if your SR is REALLY high (like in the 90s or so), Cholthuz can't do shit to you.

I assumed Rubbins suggested that approach to avoid being interrupted on a failed conc check.
Also, there are Elder Quells in there, that intercede you (not sure if that would preclude the Remove Disease).
Still working on the Goggles.....

I normally cast Restoration as I float down (but Intercession stuffs that).  Got some pots to use instead.

Thanks.  Good suggestions.
I don't normally run with Primal Scream, but I am doing what I can to boost CON too.

Overall, thanks Thaz, some good points.
I thought incap meant you couldn't move, but I guess they changed it.  technically a CON of zero should be death, but meh.
have been wearing a Jewelled Cloak and it does not seem to block the CON drain.

Sound advice, but it does beg the question - as opposed to what?
Who beats him down slow?  Who doesn't take that boss down fast if you're soloing?  I'm not bothering with the optionals as I'm not after XP and my Pally can ignore all the mobs except the Elder Quells.

Ummm....  as I said Pally 28.  Not playing a PM.
Not planning to ETR into a PM just so I can do a few GOP runs.

And if I had an Epic  PM I would consider using it, although it would be a slow old beatdown given most of your main spells are ineffective against him (Negative/Fire/Cold).  You'd have go Shiradi and force spam him or switch to acid.

I'm a melee Paladin.
I plink at him while falling, but most of the falls seem designed to make him not targetable until very late in the fall (using switchbacks etc).

His purple eye beam has a longer range than my thrown weapon.

I have inadvertently found some ledges on the way down, but not sure how useful they would be to a caster or ranged due to range and targeting.

Yeah, restore pots are my back up to being intercessed.
I keep the Character sheet open now and monitor my CON score and just keep casting/chugging in a break between attack cycles.

Being a Pure Pally, I guess I wasn't expecting so much Stat damage, but I guess the Con drain is an idea starved dev's mechanism to provide "challenge" - no miss/no save/bypass PLIS etc. & large stat damage.
Maybe it was put in boost sales of the Beholder crystals....  (nods to Lost) Grin

On the flip side, I guess it's not so bad in a party where the attack gets spread around as I've never noticed it being a problem before this.

I might be wrong, but I don't regard 90SR as being practically achievable unless you go Pure barb.

You could also try decking out in guards and a golem heart and just stand there shield-blocking while incapped. Takes a while, but should work except on EE.

Incap is not the same as helpless. When an ability score reaches zero, you become helpless. When helpless you can still run around (unless you're paralysed or held that is). http://ddowiki.com/page/Helpless

I was wrong about the spell absorb, it doesn't protect against the con damage. I thought it did.

Incap is the same as unconscious: http://ddowiki.com/page/Unconscious

Collectible turn-ins have always annoyed me. I tried doing them consistently during Head Start through the first few months of the game but eventually I just got tired of it.

I hated the old random system, it's pretty good now so long as you avoid the shifty vendors. (Which to be fair is all except for 3 or 4 of them)

I know, I read those threads about the zones for each eye stalk.  Mr Cow had some great info.

I think the physics have changed in the interim.
Monsters are able to pass straight through you know, spin instantly and attack.
Have tried kiting normal beholders and avoiding the anti-magic eye, but their turn speed seems to be unrestricted.
I'm also running with a 300-400ms latency, so often when I think I'm out of the danger zone, the server doesn't agree....   Undecided

Or maybe my twitch gaming skills are fubar.   Undecided
