Ran all the new stuff on EE last night. Champions, generally, weren't a problem. The exception to that are the eyes that shoot force damage, specifically in the Mirror room of Terminal Delirium, last phase. I was getting hit for 1500+ from an eyestalk champion (there were 2 up, about 7 champions total that wave). Once we figured out how the room kinda works it got easier, but focusing on them first was key.

I like the change. Makes the game a little more fun for me. And for someone with mostly +3 tomes still, I wouldn't mind a shot at some tome upgrades.

Was that damage bypassing PRR/MRR?
Not many can survive a hit for 1500+ damage, not to mention coming from 2 Champs at once.
That's pretty "challenging".

It was force damage, I don't think MRR was a factor. My PRR/MM is 190/100, and we had a Pal in the party with 244/whatever, and he was taking the same, so I don't think it mattered.

As for hits from champions, they weren't too bad, but you could only take 2-3 before having to heal. He was getting hit for 270-300 in some cases. I was flanking and getting SA damage so I never took too many hits, but when I did it hurt.

The eyestalks were a bitch. That room, generally, was a bitch. When I got raised I stayed on the perimeter and took out the flayers first, due to their stuns, then champion stalks, regular stalks, then whatever. When they were all grouped up I'd sometimes have a hard time seeing the crowns.

If my guildie didn't have rez cakes we probably wouldn't have tried again. I left mine on another toon, thinking we wouldn't need them. We had about 50 deaths total, with about half from that room, a large portion from the balloon phase (only one of us ran it before) and a couple odds and ends from big numbers.

The most frustrating champion was a beholder that seemed immune or highly resistant to my melee attacks. The casters finished him though. It reminded me of Diablo 2 in that battle.

So far I've only done low level Elite Heroics. They make the quests a little more challenging, but it's only noticeable when 2 or 3 champions spawn in the same group. That group is suddenly not a roflstomp.

This. Ran on my 19 and 1 or 2 was not an issue, but if I tried to sprint to pick up a large group I could laugh at before now becomes interesting. I like it, although saw no chests, guess I gotta pay attention? Did they spawn where you killed them?

The whiners on the mainforums are the same jackwipes that always insist on PUGGING Epic quests on EE 'cause they think they can't break their elite streak, yet have no problem dying like a bitch a dozen times and taking 3x as long as it would take if they'd just run EH and move on.  Now EH and EE have some monsters that are wiping their pansy asses, and their crying to Uncle Cordovan for help.

I like the Champions.  It adds a variety and randomness to a game that desperately needs some excitement and challenge.  Like most have said, they are barely a bump in the road to most top tier players, but still make things a bit more interesting.  The occasional chest is just a bonus.

Plus, pansy forum tears taste delicious...

If that's all they are doing, then you are correct, but in 6 man content a decent divine can mother hen your red bar and own your kill count.

This is probably the subject of a different thread  but decent Cleric isn't just standing there. Either they are wading in at the front line using bursts and aura to keep other melee going and throwing heals to supplement or they are hanging back using their array of instakills to thin out trash and throwing heals.

Part of the reason I enjoy playing Clerics is that it is quite difficult multi tasking like that and I find it quite fun.

Tear: 22 champions, 2 champion chests. Chests = vendor trash.

Champions can be orange. When the orange already has a chest, if the champion chest drops, it's in addition to the named chest. Chests appear wherever the corpse falls. I had one floating midair.

I had one in Prison of the Planes that was in the floor and I couldn't open it. I think I had 3 total (with what seemed like dozens of champions) and the ones I could reach were trash, so I didn't mind missing that one.

I can see why very good (and jaded) players would benefit from the Champion system as it adds more randomness to an otherwise near certain win, but for those of us who can still find a difficulty that challenges us, the Champion system rather sucks. Not major sucks, but solidly on the "better without it" side.

Not that I really expect anything more from Turdbin, but still, it would have been nice to be surprised Roll Eyes

Turdbin, keep changing the DDO rules, because McDonalds sold over 200 billion hamburgers by changing the recipe for their Special Sauce every couple of months to keep interest up.

Back to the Haunted Halls!

EE: The first champion cold murders me with two hits. This makes me remember why I was running EN. Second champion was a swarmhorde spider. They're so cute with their widdle biddy crowns! Next, a necromancer. Aside from a 350 hp disintegrate, np. The next two necromancers are champions, too, though, and they come at me with a third, normal in tow. It's times like these that I really hate Turbine for fucking up spell-casts. Two quickened recons fail to cast in a row. A champion Estrel rises and finishes them off. And no wonder. Estrel is one giant boring sack of hp. In Estrel's room, another necromancer champion. Would be a roflstomp if recon was working, instead, a little more exciting. Three chests. Vendor trash.

So fuck this. I'd have to come back on-destiny for a real count. And even money then whether I finish, or break something due to having to come to a complete stop and do nothing else at all in order to ensure my recons happen.

EH (non-extended): Swarmhorde spider champion is still cute. I want it to drop a widdle biddy chest, too.

35 champions, 3 chests. Vendor trash. All four of the boss' horrors were champions. But who gives a shit when they die once you off the boss?

Wow, sounds like they have the spawn calibration way off.
All 4 horrors (guards) were champs?  That doesn't make them rare or even uncommon.

I have not played U24 yet, so not commenting on them much other than to say, having read the forums here and there, there does seem to be something not quite right.
But despite all the complaints, you know the devs are just laughing their asses off.
For Turdbine, unhappy player base = WIN!

I've always believed that they should introduce variability into the game to improve replayabilty, but this mechanism isn't right.  It's just a cheesy, lazy and the usual Turdbine buggy as hell.
It could be ok if they were only 2-3 per quest (group scaling should apply) and they had a few buffs (but it seems like they have up to 5)?

Creatures doing multiple 1000's in damage is just stupid.  Very few toons are capable of surviving that - and it is not in isolation.  Then you put 2 or 3 in a room together?

Yep, the devs will think it is hilarious egged on by the ego maniacs going "still too easy".  It doesn't matter if it is too easy for the 0.1% who have mastered the game, it's about making the content accessible (Hard) and challenging (Elite) for the bulk of players.
Be interesting to see what they do about it (assuming they know how to fix it).

Play yourself instead of believing shit that people posts.
Afaik "thousands" of damage is clearly due to quest mechanics and marked as "extreme challenge".

It's more like 250 - 400 or 600 in highest level EEs against proper melee toon.
From the shithole DDO forums :
Quote:
I was just in a three-man group and we got torn apart in EH VON 3. It was embarrassing. The other two guys were dying left and right, and only my 900 hps, regenerating lay on hands, displacement clickies, and crazy paladin sword and board PRR and MRR helped keep me going as long as I did. But it became obvious before we got 1/4 in that we would never be able to complete.

Lolwut. Well good luck with your gaming.
