That is one thing I noticed in abundance as well. I look at the LFM's and practically everyone is Anon......

They may be like me - I set mine anon for good reasons years ago but reading this is the first prompt I've had since coming back to play to even look. I'll check all mine aren't now, but presumably I'm not the only forgetful one.

I didn't know that...was a new bug from after I took a break from the game...so thanks for that. I've just been dealing with the crappy LFM's for a few months now.  Tongue

Glad I could help  Smiley

I haven't checked lately, but this has been a problem for several updates, but hasn't been in the known issues list. WTF is the point of a known issues list if you don't put your known issues on it?!

Turdbin, keep changing the DDO rules, because McDonalds sold over 200 billion hamburgers by changing the recipe for their Special Sauce every couple of months to keep interest up.

Are we sure they're known issues to Turbine? Seems like the only known issues there are the issues they know they don't know.

The LFM not listing names is NOT a bug.  100% for sure.

The 5-10 seconds of lag from getting all names of all online players was done at login time and delayed people getting on.  So they changed the behaviour so that you get names when you go to the who tab.  That way you get the 10s delay when it is convenient for you.

Not that I doubt you, but that's WAI?! They force you to download the whole 500 Who list to resolve the 50 names on the LFM panel? Or even the 10-15 names of the leaders? Instead of making the view that populates the LFM include the name?

Because that would take all of 10 minutes to code, and add all of 10 ms transmit time over DSL, nevermind over a faster connection.

They probably spent more time making the Who refresh the LFM than they would have fixing the query to include the name  Roll Eyes

Yes M, that was their fix.
It was to delay the impact on startup.

Don't try to rationalise it - because Turdbine, it is the path to the dark side.

Wait, from startup?! That info will be stale by the time they open the LFM so they have to refresh it anyway, they save nothing. And it costs at least one and possibly two additional round trips to the server.

And they have to pay that additional overhead over and over again, because as people log off and new ones log on, the local copy of the Who list will be stale, and they'll again have to download the whole 500 long list. Or maintain and transmit concurrency information so they can download only change sets, but that's a huge amount of overhead to save downloading 50 names  Undecided

That right there is a reason to avoid a server merge, that's painful with 500 people online, that delay will really be apparent if they have 2-3k users to download every time somebody wants to checks the LFMs.

Well, in fact, people who login after you are logged in do notify your as yet unset who list of themselves (same with logouts).
But yes, it would obviously be better to get the 25 leaders names from the leaders list (or 100 names from all in LFM groups).

Their basic design for the who list is an observer list that notifies everyone about any change to it.

I always type in the first three letters of my name into the who panel, then hit search as soon as I log in.  Seems to make the LFM names appear more quickly.

They mumbled something about reducing the load on the servers, but to my mind it was simply about giving the appearance of faster startup times.

From my perspective it is akin to putting delays on your startup programs, so non-essential crap starts 30 secs later.
For me the Lfm and who list are not very high priority so I'm ok with it not loading if I don't need it.
Running off a high end PC with SSD, it doesn't make much difference, but my lower end slave PC's do notice the faster startup.

Now whether it makes any difference to the game or server loads I don't know.

They would've put "Not updating known issues list" on the list, but it was an update to the known issues....

All you really need to do to update that who list and get the LFM panel un-turbined is go to the who list, uncheck the "any" box then drag the slider down.

Fuck Off, That is all

I don't need to do most of that, simply clicking on the slider and nothing else works for me.
