Melee

1)Tree build - Many different designs.  Search for them.

2)Wolf Druid - Again many different builds.  Search them.

3)Bard - 12/6/2, 14/4/2, 15/3/2 Bard/Fighter/Rogue Swashbucklers.  Also 20 Bard Warchanter Icebreaker.

4)Paladin - 20 or 18/2x Vanguard and KotC are viable.

5)Barbarian- 20 or 18/2x or 18/1x/1x are viable.

6)Ranger- 20 Ranger Tempest or 15/4 Paladin(Fighter)/1x Tempest for more defense.  I also include 15 Paladin/5 Ranger Tempest here (these are probably the strongest, esp. without past lives).

what about a 15 bard 4 lock 1 fvs?

the idea is to have tier 5 warchanter, tier 4 ES for light proc and using it on swf (its ap expansive so maybe no swash buckler but kopesh swf)

then at 28 the combo for trash would be spinning ice hellball energy burst, on boss would be slower tho...

All of these are viable.

Also, a rogue assassin can be a lot of fun.  The straight 20's or 18/2.  Also, I'm sure someone has figured out a way to blend rogue with DWS and tempest to create a real killer.  I've not toyed with it.  But probably 12-14 ranger levels and 5 rogue levels, minimum.  Maybe throw in some fighter for feats and a little defense, but your AP is going to be beyond tight.  I don't think you can go the other way and have more rogue levels than ranger because you need either 12 ranger or 18 rogue to get the crit profiles you need.

4 Warlock is a great splash for any melee build that isn't heavily constrained on AP.  You can get 5% heal amp, immunity to fear, 16 PRR and 16 MRR, +3 AC, +15 HP, +30 Light Spell Power, +12 Universal, Eldritch Burst, Ongoing aura damage, +3d6 light damage per melee hit (Affected by spell power).  For mid 20's of AP spend.

If you go into Soul Eater, you can get some Melee Power and chaotic damage per hit for little AP spend.

Monk seems to be a great fit.  And Fighter.  Considering how shitty their AP trees are atm.

I tried 12 Ranger 5 Rogue 3 Fighter dex based.
36 Tempest
21 DWS
12 Assassin
6  StD

5 pts to whatever.  I don't know if it was optimal, but it was effective.  I think it had about 9 sneak attack dice w/o gear.

Depends on what you are trying to do.  Rogues typically own the trash, but lose to Barbs, Pallys, and now rangers on the bosses/single targets.

Roll Eyes  I think you're supposed to tell people they DO go the other way on these boards.

I'm contemplating doing an Assassin/Tempest/DWS split with more rogue levels just for the past life without a +5 heart. You're right that the critical profile from Ranger core abilities would be hard to pass up, but the extra sneak dice plus double strike from opportunist would close the gap a little at least.

why even melee? roll a mech, thrower, or shiradi. take 96% less damage while killing everything as fast or faster.

It's fun, yes. And useless compared to other options.

I'd say thf barb is the best melee.

This, theres no point to go melee. Specially with new shit incoming.

Dear players,

The D&D rules you were familiar with were too simple to understand, so we're continuing our move away from them to needlessly confusing subsystems that will make your play experience less fun and invalidate old builds and loot. We hope you have fun working out what the fuck MRR, PRR, MP, SP, RP, CL, MCL and all the other bullshit we made up whilst drunk means.

Love,

People who don't know how to fix their own mistakes cleanly

Because it's fun to kill shit with swords (and axes.  Shagga likes axes).  And if you have more than one toon, making two of the same thing seems redundant.

I'm playing a pally, a warlock, a ranger, and a barb.  The ranger is just for trying out new stuff and the barb and warlock are getting PL's.  Typically the barb is my ranged character.

this sounds interesting!!!
how would it be tho??
12 ranger 5 bard 3 barb? ... idk with 7  bard you can also have displacement but with 1 barb is useless as a split... and even 3 i don't see a real benefit

how would you do that?

I played it as THF and I've seen people have success with SWF.  TWF I haven't seen used but most people want to cleave on the build making TWF the weakest.

TWF - Pretty sure the single target ice freeze will roll twice with TWF, but that's probably redundant since the whole point is to get the freeze dc stupidly high.

THF - The priority is the frozen cleave (can't decide between freave and cleeze). You want to hit multiple mobs while they're frozen so glancing blows.

SWF - You will still have AP for Swashbuckler. Swishboobler is a pretty good deal but then you have to make up the aoe some other way. Cleave, Great Cleave, splash warlock, barb or even EK (yuck), get cleaves from ED's, E-Burst.

I am finally doing a Blue Cheese build next life. Or maybe name it John Cleeze. PDK shortsword SWF.

You can gain the +1 threat and multipliers via the Assassin T5 Knife Specialization if you stick with daggers.

I'm not sure if it is worth giving up tier 5 Tempest, but if you're leaning towards assassination and sneak attack, it might be worth a shot and won't make you so dependent on the ranger levels.

One perk of going with daggers is that you will have lots of good, easily accessible options to play with as you level up.

Sky Pirate's Dagger - ML4
Assassin's Kiss - ML7
Nightforge Stiletto - ML8
Sheridan's Wrack - ML8
Threnalian War Dagger - ML8
Flint - ML10
GS - ML12
Guardian of the Liturgy - ML12
Slice / Dice - ML14
Sacrificial Dagger - ML20
Blade of the High Priestess - ML21
TF tier 1/2 - ML22 / 24
Agony - ML23
Epic Assassin's Kiss - ML26
Epic Slice / Dice - ML28

Trees are the superior mlee by far. Next is THF barb or bugged wolf. TWF barb also works but is terrible against trash, so do that only if you accept to suck on that matter.
