You mean Grim Dawn? If so, then I agree. It's basically what Diablo 3 should've been.

Grimdark is a word that's getting mockingly tossed around a lot these days.

Grim dawn was shit, maybe not as shit as diablo 3, but still squarely in the turd category.

Try Dins Curse, best diablo like since... diablo 1.

I'll check it out. Not sure what you have against Grim Dawn though. It's got solid gameplay, lots of build options, decent story/fluff (though that's never what we play these for), and still manages to look better than Diablo 3.

Dull and repetitive, generic and slow.
Those are my problems with grim yawn. Does nothing new or interesting, has no real personality and feels pointless, no atmosphere to speak of, music is forgettable, etc.

I did like some ideas, but overall its just not a good game.

So I tried Din's Curse, and the same could be said of it. At some point, game devs are going to have to realize that they can't just RNGesus their way through a whole game. It's interesting enough as a gimmick, and it works for loot or for small quests where they can't be bothered to actually hand-craft a scenario, but to run an entire game through some algorithm or other is just meh.
The gameplay is good, keeps you on your toes. Nothing new there though. And it's definitely slower than GD's.
One thing that really bugged me about Din's Curse is the way it just throws quests at you. Not even good ones, either. Might just be me though, I hate journal/quest log bloat.
The fact that mobs will come into your base and wreck shit if you don't keep them contained/do quests is interesting, but also annoying, and I can see it being a real problem down the line as dungeons get bigger (presumably), cause there's no way to know how long you have before the slavering hordes are eating your NPCs, meanwhile you're trying to fight your way down to the boss so you can end this... to do it all again in another village. That was No Man's Sky levels of bullshit.
So, I guess we just like different kinds of games. What other aRPGs have you liked? Or games in general?

Well, the goal in dins curse is being freed from serving Din, which is accomplished at like level 60 i think.

Quests are far more important than you think tho, quests to break alliances or stop the construction of artifacts are REALLY important, and you are constantly racing to stop them, as they can and will make it hard on you.

Some hidden quests can only be gotten by exploring, and almost every quest is on a timer, even the hidden ones, so winning is a matter of being both effective and efficient, of knowing how to prioritize and of making a good character.

Try playing a pyromancer or using a fire sword and you will find the game to be extremely... volatile.
Traps can really fuck up your day, teleportation traps are not a big deal usually, but they can take you to very dangerous places, some can provoke cave ins which can cut some ways out, etc.

Some quests will have you assist characters in the village, or recruit new characters into the village, these are valuable, as when the villagers die, you lose.
Merchants dying early can cripple the entire match.

Monsters level up, they hunt eachother and the player, and gain XP and rank when they murder enough, so you can end up facing enemies far stronger than you can tackle, and it comes down to your own resourcefulness to beat them, or not. This is a far more interesting and complex system than shadows of mordor nemesis system by the way.

Dungeons are made according to the players preference, you can go with whatever you want, if you want short games you can have them, if you want to face higher level creatures for better phat loot you can face them, etc.

Dins curse kept me hooked for months as i mastered its systems, learned to detect hidden passages, to plan what quests to tackle first, etc.

Dragons dongma is a great aRPG, tho not diablo like, especially the expansion, dark arisen. I have played almost every diablo like ever released and been disappointed far too often.

On that, at least, we can agree.
