Quote:
Players in Eve Online are at war, here's what we know
An online casino is funding one of the largest military mobilizations in Eve's history

Earlier this week players in Eve Online were involved in one of that game's famously large and expensive battles. But sources tell Polygon that this was just the opening round of what could be the largest military mobilization in that game's history. Digging deeper into the subject, we've been able to chart the rise of a new in-game faction, called the Moneybadger Coalition, a group of thousands of players being bankrolled by an online casino.

Quote:
For years now the largest and most successful player-led coalition in Eve has been known as the Clusterfuck Coalition, hereafter referred to as the CFC. The leader of that coalition, Alex "The Mittani" Gianturco, was originally part of a group known as Goonswarm and has been instrumental in leading CFC in their rise in power. Around this time last year the CFC decided to rebrand itself as The Imperium. It was a cheeky move, but also a clever way to give their coalition a kind of legitimacy over every other group in the game.

They even went so far as to swear fealty to a quasi-religious Eve cosplayer who goes by the name Maximilian Singularity VI as a publicity stunt.

So yes, this is a picture of Gianturco kissing the ring of the Space Pope.

LOL.

Awesome.

The host of the game CCP named the conflict "word war bee"  because it is everyone else against goons'n'freinds and the goons are using a bee as mascot. They even made matching character background pictures for the players matching the side they are fighting on. I think Eve is the best PVP game out there.

Undoubtedly the best PvP game. When you can spend anywhere up to years infiltrating another corp/alliance to then jack all their shit and the devs actually applaud it? Not to mention the timelag feature they put in to allow for absolutely massive battle with all the shit you just stole.

Started a EVE trial account and got the Steam "Core Starter Pack" for five back (on summer-sale now) on my seccond day. DDO won't see me for a couple of weeks again.

I like EVE very much because a lot of things reward brain over (manual) skill as far as I can tell by now. I have great fun ninja-looting ships other players bring down. PVP players get very salty about that because even if they bring down my cheap and fast ship after I looted some of the stuff is lost because it blows up anyway. And the remains of my ship aren't worth a shit.

It's a cash game, though.  Pretty tough P2Win environment.  If online casinos are involved, then you aren't going to get anywhere without paying serious cash.  And I don't find it fun to be an ant that gets stepped on repeatedly.

Eh, not entirely. Sure, if you wanna get into the big ships with tech 2 guns early, you're going to have to drop some RL cash or find a good scam to buy skill injectors. you'll still get shit on by other players because their strats will be ahead of yours.

If you're smart though, you can easily stay out of trouble by not afk mining, not jumping into nullsec or dicking around in lowsec, and never flying something you can't afford to replace.

Saying that, my character is about 4 years old, so I've got most of his shit locked down already.

Yeah, but you are a gnat.  4 years with no cash spend, even if you are online 80 hours a week, you are still small potatoes in that game.

People sell Titans for $1200 a pop.  You can buy anything.  When you can do that, idiots with more money than sense or with "fuck you" money inevitably show up and dominate the top tiers.

There's still a certain amount of amusement to be gained though. You can take out a mining ship in high security space with a small group of destroyers (3 or 4 max), which takes about a week to train into. Even later down the line, you can fuck up someones day by being in completely the wrong place at the right time.

Cloaked strategic cruisers are great fun too, especially when you drop one onto a small roam and decloak because you bounced off their tackler. Never seen someone move 10 systems away so fast  Grin

Indeed, but you need to train for months to do that.

Subbed for 6 month because I keep having a lot of fun with the game. It’s true that you can basically buy anything in EVE including the biggest ships and maxxed out toons. But we are talking about thousands of $ here and not much players pay that much. Most players don’t care how big their ship is and simply group up to shot at others.

I joined a mining “PUG” fleet, got bored with them, lured them to a PVE isle surrounded by PVP areas and went AFK. It’s relatively save to cross those PVP system when you check for kills in the last 3 hours before you warp through. But I told a group famous for ganking miners (CODE.) where the fleet was mining  and everyone got killed on the way back home. My noobship couldn’t even pick up all the ore that was floating in space. While the gankers appreciated the hint were to set the trap they shot me for giggles regardless. This is EVE, I like it.

If you use a buddy invite link you get 21 instead of 14 days trail and up to 30 days extra when you sub. Don’t use the standard trial accounts, those screw you over two times compared to an buddy invite and you can’t get invited retroactive. Buddy link from my account:

Most of the really funny things follow the money vs. friends pattern:
- Player A is bad at finding friends and/or has bad judgement and has therefore to solo the game. Everything takes forever to accomplish if you are on your own, everything not totally boring (like high sec mining) is “group up or die”. If player A has some spare cash he can buy ingame currency, advanced characters and big ships totally legit and does so.

- Player B, C and D are halfway competed and set a trap for the kind of players like A is.

- Gang kills solo big ship and enjoys the salt. Tears are real when the money involved was real too. Even scamming, robbing or killing stuff just for giggles and because you can is encouraged.

I read about one group that goes around killing Titans(the largest ships in the game) for fun. Apparently the really big capitol ships are designed to fight other capitol ships, and do very poorly against a ton of tiny ships.

In one particular hunt, they caught some guy hiding a titan in one of the "nuetral" areas, then logging off. They fucking stalked the guy for like 2 years, and when went back for the ship they set a trap and proceeded to kill him.

I'll never understand the propensity of people to brag about being good at a video game. Its a toy you play with for fun. The only person who should be proud of you is your mother. If you're 3.

EVE  goes FTP too.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/08/31/eve-online-going-free-to-play-after-13-ye...

If they keep it like that all you need will be 5+ freinds and you can harvest tears with little effort and zero risk/money involved. Imagine if you start soloing a higher level dungeon there was the risk that a bunch of freeloaders wait for you with a "mass kobolds attack" - style ambush. And if you can't fight them off you loose all the gear on you. Sounds good? Only low level dungeon would be save bacause kobolds can't attack you there.

Following a SISI (the test server) review of the testing status of EVE Online: Ascension, we have reached the decision to postpone the deployment of the expansion by one week, which shifts the release date from the previously announced date of 2016/11/08, to the following Tuesday, 2016/11/15.

This extra week before release is required in order to allow us to perform further quality assurance testing and ensure that we launch into a new era for EVE Online as smoothly as possible.

I didn't even know this was possible before I left DDO...

Right?  Crazy how different some dev teams' approaches are.

And yet, there are still plenty of whiners.

I just want to grab them and shake them and show them what it could be like.

Eve takes up roughly 86% of my free time these days.  Freakin' love it.  I joined a player corp on my first day, and it disintegrated in a flash of surreal paranoia a couple of weeks later, so I've been stumbling my way through on my own, each lesson in mechanics more expensive than the last.

Two sips from the cup of human kindness and I'm shitfaced
