Actual serious help request

I had microsoft headset that recently broke.

Instead of waiting and getting one from Amazon, I went to an actual store and bought a Logitech headset/mic.

However, now when I run two instances of DDO on my computer, both instances lose the sound, whereas with the Microsoft headset, it was able to maintain sound on both.  When this happens, the list of available audio devices won't show the logitech driver.

I have to close both instances and and open one to get sound again... but I can never get sound if both instances are open.

Anyone know of a work-around?

I used to have a Logitech headset, but didn't encounter that problem when dual boxing.  Mine physically failed, so I didn't get a logitech replacement to try again.

If you can roll it you can smoke it.  If you can carve it you can smoke with it.

What version of Windows are you using?

It sounds like a driver issue between DDO and Logitech.
Usual thing would be to try the latest driver, then progressively older ones.

As Logitech drivers don't generally have issues with DDO, you could also remove and reinstall the Logitech driver completely to see if that helps.
Make sure all other apps are closed.

If that doesn't work, head into Windows audio properties and ensure the device is available there, then try DDO.
Hope that helps Bob.

thanks for help.
Windows 10.  Already tried the new driver thing.  Logitech says "you don't need a driver from us, just use the one that comes with the OS", so I'm screwed there and Microsoft says it is the latest driver.

May try the uninstall/re-install.  Not a huge deal as I'm not dualboxing that much anymore now that my F2P toon is on 3rd life.

Maybe a long shot, but how is you sound behaviour toggled?

I think the setting is "persist sound while minimalized" or something along those lines.

I swapped that around.  It was set to Persist.  I tried changing to disable, but that didn't work... Didn't try the Mute option.

As soon as the second instance of DDO starts up, the sound goes away on both.  I will still see the Logitech headset option in the Audio Options on the first instance, but it won't list at all on the 2nd instance. Selecting it again on the first instance won't make it work.  Have to exit both instances and then start only one to get sound again.

Here's another long shot: Have you unchecked the Exclusive Mode box in Microphone Properties-> Advanced?

This was it.  Thanks!  Should have checked these settings first.
