Completionist path for beginners

I thought I'd take a crack at this.  There has to be a logical order to TRing where certain past life feats are more useful to all classes than others.

Two things should be factored in by individual tastes - the first two lives of a new toon require the least amount of XP, so if there are classes you hate playing (or suspect you might hate playing), you should probably do them first since they'll go quicker.  Secondly, if you have a certain class you want to take into the end game (end game may not exist, depending who you talk to), play that class last.

The "I don't care about equipment" path

Monk - +1 Damage rolls
Fighter - +1 attack rolls
Rogue - +2 save vs traps
Paladin - +10% healing amp
Ranger - +2 elemental resistance/+2 damage ranged
Barbarian - +10 hit points*
Bard - +2 to saves vs. enchantments and illusions**
Favored Soul - +1 spell penetration checks/+20 spell points
Warlock - +3 Magical Resistance**
Wizard - +2 spell penetration
Sorcerer - +1 DC's Evocation spells/ +20 spell points
Artificer - +1 Intelligence based skills and Use Magic Device***
Cleric - +1 DC's Conjuration spells
Druid - +2 hireling ability scores

*extra hit points help all classes - but not by much.  By improving your to hit, damage, healing amp and resistances early on, you'll find the barbarian much easier and more fun to play.
**Bard and Warlock feats are useful to all classes.  Both classes can be considered wild cards and taken any time you want, but the earlier the better.
***Artificer can be taken earlier if you plan on using splash builds and want to use magic devices.  Just be sure to do it after ranger to benefit the most from the ranger's past life feat.

The "Equipment matters" path

This path tries to take into account both the benefits of the past life feats as well as using better equipment for multiple lives.  It's based on traditional gear sets (sword and board, etc) but will vary depending on player's choices and styles.

Cleric *
Paladin **
Fighter
Monk
Barbarian
Ranger****
Artificer
Rogue***
Bard***
Favored Soul
Warlock
Wizard
Sorcerer
Druid

*1st life because it is shorter and past life feats are useful to a paladin
**traditional S&B.  If you go for a paladin/rogue hybrid with light armor, take it after fighter but before Barbarian
*** take earlier if wearing light armor
**** Archer path only.  Take after fighter if using the Tempest tree

One thing to note is. There is no first life in the path. The first life is what you already are, because a brand brand new player who has no characters isn't going to start completely fresh without already  having made a character.

A second point to consider is, what does a class or life teach. That's pretty important as it makes each life easier down the line

Fuck all usually. Every time I open pug spots for stuff like Memoirs or Newcomers 7+ all I get is some retard with 30 lives in bio.
Always been like that. Serial TRers = dead weight in harder content.

There's this thing called LR Wink  First toons suck and are often abandoned (if you're still using your first toon, congrats, you're special.  Mine's abandoned on Orien).  This is more of an exercise than anything, mostly because someone asked.

Very valid point actually, but technically this isn't aimed at a complete noob because the best advice for them would be - you're first toon sucks, start over Wink  About the only real changes I'd make though would be suggesting they start with maybe a fighter because melee is a bit easier to ease you into the game, or a paladin to get a taste of the complications to come.  If you've got a complete noob friendly list, by all means post it.

SpaceGoat wrote on Jun 17th, 2017 at 12:22pm:

How so?  If my list were for a complete noob (like you thought), your suggestion is kind of moot because new players really, really, really don't belong in reaper.  They sucked ass and slowed everything down in old epics, the best thing they have to offer reaper is to pike and stay out of everyone's way.

All the way through each life?  No, this is for heroic TRing only (thus the whole TR references throughout).

I honestly wasn't sure if that would make a difference or not.  I'm not a big fan of spell slingers actually.

1. While I appreciate the goal of your guide/post was for new toons to attain completionist as fast as possible, it should be noted that epic pls are a lot more valuable in terms of the power level they bring to the table.

2. Cannith crafting is easiest to level when you are in 20+ content; additionally this makes getting collectibles (for a new player) feasible. Cannith crafting will significantly boost new players power level (I'd wager its worth more than completionist and 1x of everything).

3. A new player isn't going to have the epic tokens necessary to serial tr.

All of these point to the most optimal (as far as I see it) path for a new player to level to 20, get his foot wet in epics, heroic tr once into a build that he'll be happy doing a few epic trs in a row, spending some time grinding at cap. Then grinding out cannith crafting levels (at least to the point of 20th level gear) and collectibles to make at the very minimum level 5 and level 15 cannith crafting gear sets (ideally 5,10,15), all the while grinding out a few epic pls (optimally dps ones). And then pursuing completionist if that is indeed the sole goal (note I'd wager going the route of iconics with 1 epic pl rotation, would be the most optimal path in that case -> though that would optimally include an epic gear set as well).

Only if you've got the collectibles.  Farming collectible is like drinking puke from

You don't farm collectibles manually do you?...

With the full monty retardation that SSG made of the materials requirements in the new Cannith Crafting system, why would anyone hate themselves enough to manually cycle the hundreds, probably thousands, of instances at various MLs just to get enough collectibles needed for crafting some basic gear sets?

I guess this also depends largely on what that particular person prefers to play as a toon.

For myself, I prefer Melees, so I would do the caster lives first to be shut of them. Some people may prefer the contrary approach and put them off until last (which I did on my main, not by design).

Also, I'd agree that ePLs are better "bang for the buck" than Heroics PLs, but they are a miserable grind unless you have a stack of 10,000 Sovereign XP pots that fell off a truck stashed somewhere.

I advocate on behalf of the "Anyone who doesn't follow an eTR with an immediate TR is doing it wrong" line of thinking.

That much said, if we're assuming NO preference in class/playstyle something like this might work:

1) Barbarian- +10 HP. Good for everyone.
2) Fighter- Because it's boring AF and you want it done quickly.
3) Paladin- +10% Hamp and now you have a full 36 build pts and 2 lives of suitable gear saved up.
4) Monk- +1 Melee damage, helps with Rogue or Swash lives

*Melee Lives Now Finished*

5) Ranger- +2 Elemental Resists and +2 Ranged damage. Good for Rogue and Arty
6) Arty- +1 INT skills and UMD. Great for rogue, UMD is great for everyone.
7) Rogue- Mechanic is best, but anything will work now with this PL list. +1 Sneak Attack is "meh"
8) Bard- Swashbuckler is super easy. Self-heals, CC and UMD make for LULZ. +2 Enchant and Illusion saves are an OK bonus.

*Specialist Lives Now Done*

(Note- the following is purely subjective, these are my preferences, others may use a different logic in their progression)

9)  Favored Soul- +1 Spell Pen and +20 SP. Good for all casting classes.
10) Sorcerer- +1 Evocation DCs and +20 SP. Also good for all caster classes.
11) Cleric- +1 Conjuration and +2 Turning Levels. Conjuration helps. Turning is... yeah.
12) Wizard- +1 Spell Pen and +1 Wand DCs. Really weak, but the active PL feat is great.
13) Druid- +2 Stats: Hirelings, Summons and Charms. Shit, but Druid benefits from the previous PLs.
14) Warlock- +3 MRR. Good times, and it's a fun life to blast through sprinting to the finish line.

*Caster Lives Now Done*

Congratz on Heroic Completionist.

YMMV.

If they gave free server transfers, I'd probably be special too - I'd actually love to TR my first toon and un-gimp him, if nothing else for sentimental reasons but mostly - I really liked his name (it's still my account name on the mother board).

Pretty much, yeah.  It was more of an exercise than anything.  I'm not after the completionist feat, but I'm still ignoring my own advice.  I'm running a ranger for the first two lives because one - I had a ranger I wanted to use and two, I'm hoping the boost to elemental resistance helps future toons in the lower levels.

If someone has a truckload of those pots on Cannith, I wouldn't object to it hitting a pothole in front of my toon.  It is a hell of a grind.
