There's a lot of reasons why it made sense to use a 32 bit unsigned integer and a lot more reasons why going back and changing it now is a practical imposibility.

They could add a plat-only bank to your toon.

The plat cap serves them though, since it helps take plat out of the economy, thereby managing inflation ... except they went and added an entire AS economy, which more or less turned plat into toilet paper.

It really isn't, though.  We know *why* it's the limit, but there really are many workarounds.  Source: I've done it with real money.  I wouldn't trust these guys with floating pennies, but even the rockiest rock star could handle this one.

God, you're obtuse. 

I previously said SSG could raise the cap wanted to.  This seems to be what you're stuck on for some stupid reason.  SSG *could* do it if they wanted.  Whether that is difficult or easy is a different story.  Obviously, if it required 3 months of man-hours and a complete recode of the entire back end player currency system, they would not want to do that. 

Assuming that was the case, there are still multiple other options for accomplishing the desired goal of giving a guild leader enough plat to recreate their guild.  Not sure why you can't get that through your head.

Yes, we all get that character money is tracked by copper.  Nobody but you gives a shit.  The rest of us know there are ways around granting a player more plat than the 4.3 million cap.  You're not seeing the forest for the trees, as usual.

As you seem to already be aware, the plat vault in the shared bank doesn't work like the character money.  Assuming the wiki is correct, it's current cap is 5.5 million which means it is either tracking plat as plat or the value is coded as a large int or floating point variable.  Which also means that it renders your "they can't give players more than 4.3 million plat" objection gay and retarded, even if you are literally correct.

I'll break it down into simple steps for you.  Please follow along carefully.

1) SSG creates a script that parses a guild's airship model and purchased amenitites, then calculates the value of those in plat and astral shards.
2) SSG announces that server XXXXXXX is going to be shut down in 2 months and includes instructions for current guild leaders to transfer the guild.
3) Guild leader submits a server transfer request for his toon and guild.
4) Script calculates the value of said guild, transfers the guild leader's toon to the new server and increases his existing plat vault and astral shard balance by the appropriate amount.
5) Guild leader logs into the new server, purchases the correct airship and amenities using the additional plat and shards.  If the amount of plat required to get the airship back to where it was on the old server exceeds the per toon plat cap, they upgrade until they run out, then they withdraw more from the plat vault as needed until done.

What is it you think the problem is?  Be technical.  That will elicit a technical response.  I don't think there's anybody here who's taken one fucking programming class or made a career out of this shit who thinks that bumping plat up to a hundred billion trillion per character would take more than an afternoon for an intern.

Server Populations from my experience go....
1) Orien {Permanent Default now - It's been well over a year it's had it!}.
2) Sarlona {The Chinese population keeps it high pretty much 24/7 but other servers have higher peaks}.
3) Ghallanda {Very cliquey server full of big Guilds}
4) Khyber {Older population, hasn't had the default in 6 years but it's pop. remains strong}.

5) Argo {Had the default before Orien but pop. has dropped off heavily since then}.
6) Thelanis {Desperately needs the default to inject new blood - Way more Guilds than other servers at Lvl 160+, 150+, 140+, strangely few Lvl 200 Guilds - Seems to have very few large Guilds though and lots and lots of 1-6 man Guilds}.
7) Cannith {Decent sized European pop. can no longer make up for lack of total pop. at off peak times - Many Europeans still playing are night owls playing at US Peak}.

8) Wayfinder - This server was a MISTAKE! And one that Turbine/SSG are unwilling to admit to and fix!


Suggestions...
1) Give everyone at least 1 Free Transfer to a server of their choice other than Wayfinder.
Give Premium Players +2 Free Transfers for 3 total {again to any server except Wayfinder}.
Give VIPs the above +1 Free Transfer per Month remaining VIP. {Again to any server except Wayfinder}.

2) Merge Thelanis with Orien and Argonnessen with Sarlona.
This will bring us down to 6 servers {5 once Wayfinder empties}.

Thelanis+Orien would remain the largest server.
Argo+Sarlona would move into outright second place - These would be the big two.
Khyber, G-Land and Cannith could each have the Default for a month or 6 weeks at a time to help them grow. The big two should maintain a high pop. through players choosing to move to them anyway.


  

Main Characters by Server - Cannith Jelina, Sylveria, Enochpagett, Lieuk, Larystessian, Molineux. Sarlona Keltenn, Franq, Athiina, Nyszsa, Curleag, Nalpheyn. Khyber Tynecastle, Athenion, Argo Clievelund, Bjorkalina, G-Land Hassannavid, Tannadice.

Not sure why you would keep Cannith standing as the smallest of the non-wayfinder servers but force merge two servers with larger populations.  Besides that you have a lot of characters on it, so there is personal bias. 

A more logical plan would be this:

1 - Orien
2 - Sarlona
3 -G-land
4 - Khyber
5 - Argo
6- Thelanis
7- Cannith
8 - Wayfinder

Merge: 1+8, 2+7, 3+6, and 4+5.  That would result in 4 servers with semi-equal populations.  If you do this, give them all new names like they did in the original merge.  Call them:

Ebberon, Xendrik, Faerun, and Toril, or something.  (why have only Ebberon names now?  We have plenty of FR content). 

But mergers are problematic because you have to deal with inactive characters and guilds.  So I'd still prefer the voluntary transfer option (at least to start).

The soft merge, via transfer, into a soft close later (based on where people go) makes more sense.  Offer the free transfers off of 5-8 to 1-4.  Then, take a look at the population levels after 90 days and soft close servers with the lowest populations.  (I.E. they remain running, but you can't create new characters there.  If you log in, your only option is to transfer to one of the 4 most active servers for free.  That way they never have to deal with moving all those ancient inactive accounts.  If a player returns from a long break, the first thing they do is transfer to a new server and start playing.  If transfers can be done in minutes, it won't be a problem.).

If Cannith was to be merged with another server I'd want it to be with Khyber!

I find that Khyber and Cannith have the most in common player-base wise.

Argo+Sarlona
Thelanis+Orien
G-Land+Wayfinder

It's not just about population numbers but atmosphere and demographics.

Cannith+G-Land because both have high European pops would seem viable but atmosphere are total opposites!
I find G-Land to be almost ludicrously Cliquey and of course I really don't get on with Leslie who I feel tries to run the entire server as his personal fiefdom!
As I also tend not to get on with the Elite on ANY Server and Leslie has polarised the entire server into Casual vs Elite I find it to be a very bad choice for a merge with Cannith or really with any of the other 5 big servers {Wayfinder+G-Land is perfect though}.


Cannith+Sarlona I would be fine with but Sarlona+Argo fits better for me demographics wise as Sarlona's high Asian pop + Argo's high Pacific/Oceanic pop. would work better than Cannith's Euro pop. filling in between Sarlona's Asian and US pops.

Khyber has a very low Euro Pop and could do with the boost to non-peak hours as well as the two servers merged having a great peak pop.

Thelanis like Sarlona would fit well with Argo but I feel Thelanis+Orien would work much better than Sarlona+Orien.
And Thelanis' J-Pop vs Sarlona's Chinese Pop. - Well that might be dangerous.
