Anyone tried it?
What's it like?
Do not try the patience of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger.
We are dreamers, shapers, singers, and makers. We study the mysteries of laser and circuit, crystal and scanner, holographic demons and invocation of equations. These are the tools we employ, and we know many things.

My sons (HS senior and sophmore in college) love it. It has a co-op mission mode (4 players I think) that you can do and gain resources and experience that you use to progress in the storyline and a "battle royal" mode that is basically a large multiplayer PvP mode. They both seem to prefer the PvP mode to the co-op mode.
It has a heavy microtransaction revenue model.

Ugh.
Thanks.

Pretty much what Asheras said. The PvE is enjoyable for about 10 hours (your mileage may vary), after which you've done the same ol' song and dance enough times to get bored.
The monthly events are pretty fun and break up the boredom of the grind. But the grind is built to break you into making purchases. However, like DDO you can get the store currency ingame via certain missions, event quests, daily quests, etc.
My suggestion would be to wait until the perk reroll system comes out later this month. And possibly wait until they create a working report/punishment system. Game is obviously currently plagued with children and 'leechers' (Pikers) from the Battle Royale mode that will literally afk in a mission and expect you to complete it for them. There's no easy way to report them and your report does jack diddly at the moment.

My boys love it too (about the same ages as Ash's.)
They mostly play the Battle Royale mode.
A friend let his 12-year-old daughter play it for exactly one round, then shut it off due to the absolutely toxic language he heard over voice. Think KNN, live ranting.
From what I can tell, Player Unknown's Battlegrounds is almost exactly the same game.
I don't play FPS games anymore, so I can't tell you anything firsthand.
Two sips from the cup of human kindness and I'm shitfaced

Besides the co op any money you spend is purely cosmetic.
PvP is short and sweet, plus the new game mode is kinda fun. One person plays thantos and when he dies the next person to grab his glove is the next thantos.
So there is no pay to win it that's what you were thinking.
