Which clown started adding attack speed into this game again?

If you had watched the recent devchat with Sev, he said that main source of lag* is due to players attacking speed is very high, triggering multiple procs which the DDO engine is not built to handle.
Well, in Update 5, most attack speed boosts were changed to a new mechanism - Doublestrike - precisely for this reason & we were not even level 10(?) at that time.
So I want to know which clown took this decision to give players so many attack speed boosts again.

* Previously main source of lag was identified as our computer, our ISP, FvS Archon light etc. So take this with a massive pinch of salt.

Lack of foresight.

So when Blizzard sat down to create World of Warcraft, they decided at the outset that the game would scale to lvl 255. They never once intended to make 255 the cap, but they thought ahead that far ahead, making sure they had room to expand.

I'm pretty sure SSG didn't even plan as far as lvl cap 10 for DDO. They were clearly out of ideas by 20, and the engine was not remotely designed to scale to 30.

I could go on and on but its pretty obvious they barely know their own game anymore.

So if someone ever starts a private server,  and they get a similar population on one world as a real ddo world.  Who will fix lag first.  My money is on the private DDO server.

Private server, no question. The process of reproducing the server from scratch is guaranteed to optimize a lot of processes.

?? Maybe you weren't level 10, everyone else was level 20 running epics

In any case, devs don't have a fucking clue how to reduce lag. In 13 years of playing on and off I've not experienced a single update where I've said "oh yeah, they've really improved the lag situation". The most notable difference was when they changed how reaper points are loaded so now you have time to go and have a shower every time you enter or leave a quest and all that shit gets applied at a rate of 1 point a minute.

I know you came to the party late but the game did not launch with lvl 20 cap. If I recall the cap was 10 at launch, then raised to 16 and finally 20? Unfortunately my memory is not what it once was.

True enough, as far as it goes.

But the update that added doublestrike was in 2010.

I suppose its possible they found out double strike didn't scale properly and thus went with a combination of attack speed and double strike, then fucked it up completely.

Of course all of the "scaling" issues could be solved by giving high level mobs less HP. But that takes work. Maths. Things SSG is not great at. Easier to just make numbers higher and then oops lag.

They spouted nonsense about attack speed causing lag back when cap was 14-16 and OG tempest got released. They nerfed that and redesigned twf to the 20/40/60/80% chance it is now.

I have a new theory: its not attack speed itself, its whatever system hiding in the background the weights the dice rolles. Pay attention next time you're laying around with Daily Dice - if you role as soon as you log in, its almost always a 1-20 and there is a lag spike along with it. Roll after you've been playing a while, no spike and better numbers.

Actually it was more spread... 10 for the release, then raised to 12 with Menechtarun ( Module 3 ), Then raised to 14 with Reaver's Refuge ( Module 4 ) ... then raised to 16 with Vale of Twillight ( Module 6 ), Level 20 came with Module 9 and Eberron Unlimited. ( F2P )

If you are talking about UPDATE 5, when doublestrike was added, then you are talking 2010, not 2006.   The level cap was definitely 20 when doublestrike, and, more importantly, off hand strike chance, which was what the attack speed change was really about, came into the game.

Confusing Module 5: https://ddowiki.com/page/Module_5:_Accursed_Ascension (which was cap 14 anyways) and Update 5: https://ddowiki.com/page/Update_5_Release_Notes ; is a fail. 

All that said, attack speed has been getting a lot of buffs lately, especially in ranged attacks where doubleshot is uncapped.

Ask yourself one question.  Who on the dev team then is still on the dev team now?  Do you think they know enough about the engine to know what it can't handle?

Too much of that kind of knowledge is probably gone.  The code is probably undocumented,  and the people that are there just throw shit at the code and see what sticks.

The engine is probably unchanged; the big difference is the amount of checks going on to calculate rp/mp/prr/mrr; way more swaps for recalculations; way more attacks per swing vs back in the day etc. The only thing back in the day had was x5 more people

Ya know, Sev is gonna blame the lag on everything other than their imbecilic coding for add ons the game engine was never intended to support in the first place.  The irony here is that the shit-caked asshole is trying to blame players for things that he and his team of short bus jockeys have intentionally introduced into the game.

Next month, that crack-addled dipshit will blame the lag on something else the players are doing...just like he’s been doing this entire fucking time.
