...the fuck? Isn't zelda a single-player game?

I'll never understand the propensity of people to brag about being good at a video game. Its a toy you play with for fun. The only person who should be proud of you is your mother. If you're 3.

Quote:
Police in Japan have previously arrested folks for modifying video game software which violates the Unfair Competition Prevention Law in Japan. This same law was also used by Nintendo to sue a go-kart company in 2017. In 2015, another man in Japan was arrested after selling cheats in the popular online shooter Alliance of Valiant Arms.

Yes, arresting someone for selling cheats in an online shooter makes sense, that shit is competitive. There are sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars riding on tournaments and cheating at that is as big a deal as cheating at professional sports. Where I'm confused is that the zelda game is a single player game. That ruling effectively makes it illegal to mod single-player games.

just another slippery slope in a long line of bonkers since 2019.. or was it 1914 I forget

I guess the law can be changed once the Japanese go extinct (since they don't have kids)

I can only assume it's because you are still making money based on someone else's work hence, the "unfair competition". One Percenter would totally know more about this

Anyway, if you think about it, even single player games we buy on steam have their terms of use/EULA/agreements that you have to accept in order to play. I once read a couple of them and they actually stated that you accept to not make money by altering part of the code and stuff like that.

I see, so you're suggesting its the "making money" part, not the "cheating" part, that makes a certain amount of sense. Otherwise the Elder Scrolls Construction Set would have to be banned in Japan, seeing as you can use it to "cheat" and all.

That being said, I actually find it fairly impressive that anyone paid real money for cheats on a single-player game. I've been cheating at video games since mere hours after I got my first computer. I've used save-game editors, hex editors, every glitch you can name. Never spent a dime to cheat on a single-player game(unless you count buying a game expressly because I heard it had fun cheats), and can't imagine why anyone would. Cheating at single-player games, like oxygen, is free.

The AC/DC explained it kinda well years ago

Come on, come on, lovin' for the money
Come on, come on, listen to the money talk

I'm sure I don't have to explain this but money and pussy are what make the world spin.

For me it was pretty much get new game --> play game until it stopped being fun --> google [game title] + cheats --> continue having fun. Games are a toy and ain't nobody gonna tell me how to play with my toys.

Those were always entertaining.

I have met people who were legitimately offended when other people cheated at single-player games. I always find them fucking HILARIOUS. This one guy I remember felt like it devalued his own accomplishments because he was able to beat the game on higher difficulty without cheats. I still laugh my ass off every time I remember that retard.
