Is it still fucked up? I remember SSG saying something about a year ago on how ddo store was no longer available when using steam.

Anything new?

Not that nobody cared but I checked for myself and....it was shit.

When using steam, DDO does not seem to be able to work the in game store prompting to use a slow and retarded external browser and NOT allowing to use steam wallet anymore. It was a problem that arised like almost a year ago and has not been fixed (shocking, I know). So, if you have money on steam and decide to buy ddo points, tough luck mudafuckers.

Figured you should know

Why do they even keep their presence on steam considering it's an even worse experience than the normal game is beyond me.

Free advertising at a guess. Last time I went to the Steam F2P section, filter tag of RPG and sorted by "What's being played?", DDO wasn't far off the top. ~Top 15 IIRC.

I've personally never understood why anyone installed Steam in the first place. But then again I refuse to spend actual money on DRM-locked anything.

I'll never understand the propensity of people to brag about being good at a video game. Its a toy you play with for fun. The only person who should be proud of you is your mother. If you're 3.

I buy both on Steam and GOG (which is drm free btw).

Steam has a MASSIVE library and many indie devs cannot afford to release on physical discs too. I'm a sucker for metroidvania games for example so I don't have much of a choice

GOG is excellent and even has a few free games every once in a while. It's also drm free so it's cool

Between these two clients combined I have over 400 games I think (and I haven't even played some of them).

There is also Epic Game Store but I have used it for a week and uninstalled...if you know about EGS you may also know about their...troubles, so to speak.

I used to pirate a shit load of stuff when I was 16, then I turned 18 and got a job that allowed me to afford more expensive stuff and support creators. If you pirate stuff, game devs get no money and no games get made. I know some publishers and game studio do not deserve a spit in their eye for their shady ways but that is another thing

I've spent thousands of dollars at GOG. I think I have something like 250+ games. Most of their RPG library. But I buy from them explicitly because they are DRM-free. I'm voting with my dollars. The "convenience" of Steam does not outweigh someone else being able to tell me I can't play the games I paid for.

Fun fact btw: most GOG games are even "portable" to the extent that they don't make registry entries or anything else. If you wanted to you could install them to a thumb drive and play off of that. Its also more useful from a future-proofing perspective: there may come a time when windows no longer supports the installer for the game, but can still run the .exe file just fine. But then I still play games I bought 20 years ago, so maybe I'm the only one who cares.
