Here's a shortlist of better videogames you can buy for $7 or less:

1. Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition ($6 on GOG)
2. Planescape: Torment ($7 on GOG)
3. Deus Ex: GOTY Edition ($1 on GOG)
4. Thief: Gold ($1 on GOG)
5. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic ($7 on Steam)

Why spend $7 on an XP stone when you could buy any of these games instead?

You could have fun for months or weeks playing them, enjoy great story-telling, amazing soundtracks, interesting characters, etc.

You could be happy.

Definitely the traditional "pay per month, no micro transactions, no p2w" model is dead. But there is still a significant market for middle ground-type games like DDO that aren't 100% p2w microtransactions or 100% subscription-based.

MMOs in general will remain a concept until the sun explodes.
