Yep, and they're taking away ToEE crafted weapons from loot tables. Despite that being, like, the main/ONLY reason to run that pack.

I've once again returned to my (usual) feeling of "fuck this update, who gives a shit?" I should've known better than to expect anything better than mediocrity from SSG. Shame on me.

SSG has once again shown that they dont play the game.

I would love to see them try to level a low level caster without AOE sonic blast.

Im not even sure how im going to do it after this patch. Burning hands has a joke AOE and trying to kill mobs 1 by 1 with ST spells is just not viable.

Lynnabel has probably been busy rubbing one out over their great new revised named weapons and won't want anyone not be able to see first hand how poor they are at their job, by having the loot tables blocked up with crafting blanks.

Its just so fucking retarded. What are they trying to do, sell more otto boxes?

I cant imagine going back to the days when we used to level a caster with master's touch and a 2H weapon without strikethrough.

On the off chance that anyone knows someone who can get in touch with SSG like a streamer, please get them to try and talk some sense into SSG, removing AOE from sonic blast is just going to fuck over everyone trying to level an arcane caster from now on.

Start with 13 Str, take THF at level 1, Power attack at 3, swing a quarterstaff until you get some decent AoE.  Visit Fred when you have a decent AoE spell rotation.  Casters are dog-shit at low levels compared to THF melee.  That all turns around pretty quickly once casters get a couple AoE spells they can rotate.

It's also close range and 1d4 damage.  DDO Sonic Blast is ray range and 1d6+1 damage.  DDO isn't a faithful recreation of D&D 3.5, never was, and has been getting further than further from it with every update.

I guess if nothing else, making casters horrible at low levels IS close to how it is in P&P. But that's kind of a silly rationale (which I doubt they'd ever use) given how many other deviations DDO takes from P&P.

There are many problems with the system, which should've been obvious to anyone who actually plays the game. They should've been visible from a mile away.

First off, EVERY melee weapon type has a caster variant. Which is retarded. Over 100 blanks do not need to exist. If you want caster blanks, then just make 8: 4 elemental scepter, 4 elemental quarterstaves. There's no reason we should have caster greatclubs or greataxes for fucks sake. This is the biggest problem: between heroic and epic weapons, simply removing these "caster variants" would eliminate over 200 of the items right there.

Secondly, ranged weapons are steaming piles of shit. Both in heroics and in epics. They are not worth upgrading now, they weren't worth upgrading 5 years ago, they weren't worth upgrading in 2015 when the pack first came out. Not to mention, some of them are powercrept by the named items from ToEE. In particular: why the fuck would I want a craftable longbow when Sapphire Sting exists? Why would I want a craftable Great Crossbow when Leverage exists? Ratcatcher from Threnal makes elemental light xbows pointless. So counting all the heroic/epic ranged blanks, that's 48 blanks that shouldn't exist.

Thirdly, on that note, certain other named items invalidate the need for ToEE blanks. Elemental Bloom is a better qstaff than any of those blanks. Same with Spinal Tap. And possible Assassins Kiss. So that's 12 blanks that don't need to exist.

Fourthly, all of the heroic armors are bad. 75% fort is not that good. Dusk is not that good. Resistance 2 is bad. 10% elemental absorption is "lol who  cares." None of these armors needed to exist in the first place, especially since none of them have a set bonus in heroic. So that's what: 20 blanks right there.

TLDR: Congratulations, SSG: I just cut out over 280 blanks from your system of 500, effectively halving the amount of blanks you should have. And I'm just some nobody who thought about this for all of 15 minutes. If I can do it, then there's absolutely no excuse that SSG/Turbine couldn't. Pure laziness and neglect, plain and simple.

Spellcasters in P&P never have to solo. This is a strange thing people don't seem to "get" about MMOs: every class needs to be capable of soloing in order for the game to remain viable. Even if solo-play is not the main thrust of the game, so to speak; there are always going to be times when you just need to grind.

There is ___SOME___ justification for making most 1h weapons be able to operate as caster sticks. What if I want to roleplay as Gandalf and have a sword in my hand instead of a scepter? Obviously that's very niche, but I can see people being unhappy if they were limited only to scepters. The better solution to this problem is to simply make every blank "buildable" as either a caster stick or a beat stick. There was no fucking reason ever at all to have "one version of a longsword that's a caster stick, and a different one that's a weapon". That's just stupid.

Its actually even easier than that: why have separate 4 elemental blanks at fucking all? Why not just have a generic blank of everything, and let you craft on it an elemental type, then offensive or caster? That takes the total number down to, what, 50 blanks total? Less?

I have a Ratcatcher in my bank which I acquired recently. It's 18-20 x3. Was it even more powerful before nerf? Either way, it absolutely shits on ToEE light xbows

...Actually yeah, that didn't occur to me. I was coming at it from the perspective of "working within Turbine's framework," but didn't realize that the framework was shitty to begin with.

What makes ToEE even worse is that Greensteel and Alchemical crafting were actually introduced BEFORE ToEE crafting. And those systems are far easier to play around with: there's only 1 blank for each item type

Thankfully had just finished my Main's last epic PL as Sorceror and was going to do some racials as a Bard but decided to eff around on a Tabaxi 1rog/1Monk/5 alch (the rest alch too prolly)  Chieftains Spear, Stave of the Seer, on up to my ML 18 Bonecrusher Wink

I want to say it was 17-20 x4, but the Wiki insists it was 17-20/x3 pre-U45. Originally they served it down to 19-20 x3, but acknowledged that this was "a mistake" and set it to te current. It wasn't a fucking mistake, it was a retarded over-correction. Fuckwads.

The best theory I can come up with is they let someone who was both A)unfamiliar with DDO, and B)completely new at item design(in addition to being completely retarded) create all of the loot for ToEE. And then no one checked their work.

OG Greensteel is the single best system ever wherein a single item(the Stone of Shavarath) creates a "universal blank". I don't really understand why this concept wasn't applied to every fucking system going forward.

The problem with 13 str is that it becomes useless after low levels, i would rather take more DEX for ref saves or CON for hp.

If they were going to make sonic blast single target they should just add decent AOE options at low levels. Making burning hands and acid spray standard conal AOE would be a good start.

Also bards are reliant on sonic blast at low levels to do damage as well.

Its just bad balancing. Goign back to using master's touch + 2H without strike through is awful and gimpy. Imagine if 2H barbs had to use a bow till they get to level 5 or 6 where they get decent 2H options. It would be so dumb.

Just wizards really, and they suck at low levels even with sonic blast.  If you can't make a sorcerer work with max/emp burning hands and acid spray SLA's with the +2 caster level robe then there's no hope.
