He clearly enjoys DDO despite the flaws and has been critical of SSG at points when even I expected he'd be towing the company line to stay in their good graces.

People forget this simple fact: if DDO fails then Strimtom is out of a job.

That's all you need to know to know that he is a biased observer. Any streamer who is not a variety streamer is inherently ego-invested in the success of a particular game. They create hype and maintain it in order increase their viewers. If the game is doing well and everyone is happy then they are happy---if the community is toxic, then they will not want to cover the game. It's pretty simple.

Is Strimtom dishonest? No. That's different from him being biased though. He has shit-tinted goggles.

This same logic applies to various 3rd part vendors for cars, etc. Anyone who takes up a particular hobby is biased like this. All human economic activity admits of the problems of a pyramid scheme. You could even argue that's part of the resource curse.

I am pretty sure both get the expansions for free. I think Voodu said something like this with Feywild. But other than that I doubt they get money from SSG. And even IF, who cares?! Either they talk shit or they don't. You don't need to get paid for that. Most people know when the shit hits the fan.
A simple add in a magazine would get more people in than Voodu and Strim can lure with their 100 viewers each stream. So why pay them?
