I plan to play it on launch, then a month later once the Bugthesda is patched a bit. Then I'll likely wait 2+ years for a Star Wars full conversion mod.

Aye. I prefer Warhammer 40k levels of space fantasy. These low-fantasy settings are a tough sell. I'm very skeptical.
Morrowind was so good because it had a consistently weird aesthetic. Like it felt like a real alternate world. The Telvanni architecture really sold me. And then you've got places like Tel Vos with a cool hybrid feel.

I feel you. I love both Warhammer's for setting uses.
And Morrowind was the shit. Kirkbride's coked out fantasy was just the right levels of standard high fantasy and
high
fantasy.
I was glad to see ESO remake Morrowind relatively faithfully location wise, even if they kept the lore a lot more tame. But boy did they drop the fucking ball on Summerset visually. They turned it into a high gothic architecture and said fuck it to 20+ years of speculative in universe lore that said the place was trippy as balls to witness.

I played ESO for 10(?) hours or so on release. I know the game has changed a ton since then. Think it's worth a playthrough?

Amen to Kirkbride. The early lore team was far superior to the goy slop they're trying to feed us now.

It's honestly not too bad, but it depends on what turned you off back in the day.
I played it daily for about 2 years straight there for a hot minute. But that led to me getting some major burn out and disillusion with the Zenimax team. I'm hoping that with Microsoft over Zenimax a lot of changes will be made, such as finally axes supporting for the legacy consoles and freeing up the dev team to add new classes, the long since datamined spellcrafting system, etc.

I didn't enjoy the first few quests and the fact that we couldn't progress quests together. About 6 of us were playing. IIRC they fixed this stuff. I remember the opening story area being really weak and having played post-daggerfall elderscrolls games to death I couldn't handle the drop in story quality.
I heard there was some good story writing in some of the later DLCs from a buddy.
