All right... help with shadow settings

After nearly a year of logging in for nothing but free shit, I finally decided I wanted to play again. I have reformatted my gaming PC since last time I ran DDO and did not think to back up my settings.

My main problem: shadows are too dark. I know I can just turn up the gama and make the game look all washed out and visible. But somewhere in the 9,000 different settings for shadows, isn't their one that just makes them "not pitch-black"?

I'll never understand the propensity of people to brag about being good at a video game. Its a toy you play with for fun. The only person who should be proud of you is your mother. If you're 3.

in the folder %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Dungeons and Dragons Online there is a UserPreferences.ini file. open it in notepad, look under the [Render] section and you'll see a label for AmbientLightBoost. Set that to 2.0 (or 1.0) like this: AmbientLightBoost=2.00, save it, and restart the client. All of a sudden the Underdark isn't so dark, and quests like Rainbow in the Dark can be navigated without the Torch. The big benefit is that you don't get major gamma white-washing in bright settings.

(Dungeon Helper Discord searched for gamma)
