To LR or not to LR?

So... I finally capped my 18/2 Wiz/Rog and it's been fun. It's already a 32 point build and is not very geared, so I haven't run any epics yet.

I've been debating on whether or not to LR into a pure Wiz or not. On the one hand, I <3 evasion and the extra HP being a rogue brings. On the other, I like more SP and spells... and really I haven't been using rogue skills much anyway.

Hang on to those Rogue levels for a little while and have some fun playing in the Shroud with no danger to yourself.

As long as you have 350+ HP, you can run up to Harry and throw your spells from point blank range and then make fun of the Rogues and Fighters that die in part 4.

Then, when you have as much gear as you want for a while, you can TR and enjoy the whole process all over again.

imo that +1 dc is important. I wouldn't make a rogue splash without a lot of gear and some TRs.

Well it's my first toon and my and a buddy started playing as a duo team of warforged. He was tank, I was Wiz/Rog... so I stuck with it til I capped.

Now I'm finding I use my rogue skills less and less, though I really do love UMD Wink But, I'm wanting to try some epics and stuff, and worried my DCs are a little low. I'm at work right now, but iirc, my Mass hold DC is 36/37 or so with SF, GSF and a +1 Ench weapon equipped.

For some reason I thought you were asking to Larp or not to Larp......imagine my disappointment in the actual content of the thread.

I've got a wiz/rogue that is at 19 (for the moment) and will soon be level 1.  He's a double TR, and even with the extra build points, passive feats, and build tweaks he is still inferior to my pure rogue and pure wizard.

He was a heck of a lot of fun to play, but once I got to the shroud I started noticing a big difference between what he could do and what a pure wizzy could do.

Survivable?  Yes.  Solo friendly?  Yes.  But not as effective as a member of a group.  For my play style (which includes epics), being part of the team is much more important.

We do a lot of lurking. It's a way to cope with all that shame we have.

I wouldn't be surprised if the overlap between DDO players and Larpers was fairly high. Quite a lot of the Larpers I know also play MMOs.

Well, fairly high compared to the overlap between Larpers and the general population, anyway. It's still a pretty niche hobby.

I think the beanbag thing is peculiar to the USA. Certainly not common in the UK, or any European systems I've heard of.

I think it's used as a spell... at least in the LARPs I've seen/heard... I'm not big into LARPing though.

In the US many groups use some form of projectile to resolve some or all of their magic system.

Depending on the group it could be anything from a tiny piece of cloth full of birdseed to a baseball sized & weighted wad of cloth.

I'd like to do a live action LARP again someday.  The last time I did it, everyone was carrying their sword around in one hand and doing normal hand stuff with their other hand just because we didn't have sheaths for our foam padded sticks.  Smiley

When we finally met the evil sorcerer, I was extremely polite and offered to shake his hand before the fight.  When we shook hands, I tapped him with my sword and said "fatal blow" or whatever zany ability fighters got in that game.  The evil sorcerer's only reaction was, "Wait, what?  Aw, crap!"

Any system that lets you abuse humans by being polite has got my vote for awesome system of the month.

A friend of mine and I went to LARP with a mutual friend of ours.  They were having a big melee skirmish.  Anyways, my friend and I have extensive weapons training through the martial arts since we were kids, most of it together as well so we worked great together.  We teamed up and cleaned up.  We figure it was only fair since our buddy abandoned us in some unknown environment to chat with his larper friends.. he didn't even introduce us!  Revenge was awesome, petty, but awesome.  Nothing like being the last 2 standing - then ending it by looking at each other, smiling, then stabbing each other at the same time, hehehe.

Petty is the best kind of revenge.
