In practice, those other things barely matter.

Non-specific?  You're the only one claiming that's somehow a mitigating factor.  I don't get it at all.  I don't see how it makes the slightest difference here.  If a Torc were a very rare drop from a bunch of Raids, instead of a rare drop from one, I don't see how that would make putting it in the store any more acceptable.

From festivals?  Simply laughable.  Even if that absurd technicality makes it justifiable as not being Raid loot, they're selling items worth tens of millions of plat.  I think that still counts as something to be concerned about.

Worth millions of plat at the current time, but soon to be very denigrated.

An arguement could be made then for Turbine to be selling LDSs/larges in the DDO store then. Or dragon scales. Perhaps DT runes as well. Ioun stones would be quite a popular seller I am sure.

If uniqueness to a specific quest/raid is the only qualification to "rare and damn, damn hard to aquire" then these and more like them should also all be fair game to sell in the DDO store.

None of these are unique to any one specific quest/raid.

But regarless if it is unique or not; until the time somone pulls a +3 tome from a chest outside a raid, it is rare and unique raid loot, because raids are the only place it is available.

It could be made, but I think it's pretty obvious that tomes are in a league of their own.  Shroud ingredients are clearly tied to a specific raid, even if they drop from elsewhere - they are part of one major raid that you're supposed to have access to in order to craft the items from said raid, though Turbine was nice enough to open that up by putting the altars on airships.

The biggest thing about it, though, is that they're nothing more than an incrementation of a consumable that's already available in the store.  I just honestly can't understand thinking of them as being some sort of loot that's strictly tied to raids as though that's the way that it's always supposed to be.  All of the other examples are very specific items that don't exist in PnP and are tied to their specific adventure pack, with the exception of Ioun Stones.  And honestly, selling BtA Ioun Stones wouldn't bug me all that terribly much, either.

I'm really not interested in the pathetic timing argument, again.  It's just incorrect and stupid, frankly.  Sad

I know you can get Shards of Great Power from ToD.  Can you get regular Shards of Power and Shards of Supreme Power as well?  I forget.  Because if so, you can already get tier 3 Green Steel without ever running Shroud--even without buying ingredients from the AH.

As for +3 tomes, it is different if they're planning on changing that in the future.  Increasing the in-game availability of +3 tomes would have a drastic effect on their value as a TP item.  It's exploiting the people who aren't reading the forums about this change by getting them to spend their money on something that seems much more valuable than it's about to become.

Okay, actually, that's a pretty legitimate argument right there.  I do see the silent, non-forum-reading majority brought up in a lot of discussions, but I had mostly thought of them as the content masses rather than considering the effect that this sort of change might have on them.

It's not raid loot, and I don't think it breaks any promises, but they should really make it clear that +3 tomes will have a chance to drop elsewhere in the near future before they go selling them in the store.

Hate the idea, but will damn well be buying some +3's to save myself from ever running another Reaver, VoD or HoX again.

To my knowledge shards of power and supreme power only drop in The Shroud itself.

I've never seen them drop in Amrath.  I think the great shards only drop because they are used in ToD ring crafting.  It would be lame to make you run Shroud to craft a ToD ring.

Ditto.  Especially if they are BTA like other store-bought tomes.  Although it does depend a bit on the prices as I'm not in a position to spend a lot on points in the next week and a half.

What's the the problem?  Are people just now realizing they wasted part of their life grinding for tomes and now any Tom, Dick, and/or Harry can just buy one for a couple of bucks?

It's not like Turbine has a finite number of tomes.  A tome purchased in the store doesn't remove one from a raid chest.  Hell, they're even INCREASING the number of quests that will drop +3s.  If someone doesn't want  to (or can't) pay for a tome in the store, their chances of randomly getting one will still go up.

So why are people crying like little bitches?

Because in the long long ago, the Devs came down unto the player base and bestowed upon them a sacred promise regarding raid loot that shall never be violated.  And because +3 tomes cannot be considered anything but raid loot until they have confirmed to drop from every 21st+ level quest, which I have to confirm with my own eyes by having it drop in my name.  And if I'm still missing the Int tome by the end of that, by God, Turbine had better make up for that, too.

but really, +3 tomes don't make any difference - they are nice, make me smile when I pull one, ect, ect, but in the end -eh they don't suddenly make you an unstoppable killing machine or anything..... I don't really care if they add +4 tomes to the store.... I purchased +2 total tome 1 time on a TR and I don't think I will need to try that again - just wasn't worth it....

People are crying because +3 Tomes becoming non-raid loot with increased drop chances is nothing more then some theoretical supposing at this point. While the fact that Turbine is ready and raring to sell very rare; very hard to get +3 tomes in-game is a very immediate reality.

Turbines suggestion of looking into the matter of raid drops, sometime, is worthless.

If they change it, or even just announce the change as a sure thing; I have no problem with it.

Until they do; they are just practicing misdirection again; hoping that players will forget this for a vauge prmise of reviewing the matter; as it slowly becomes a Turbine accepted practice to sell rare/named/raid items in store.

No item makes you an "unstoppable killing machine" - not +3 tomes, not madstone boots, not mineral ii's, nothing. It's a matter of principle.

You guys the only free to play raid is tempest spine and it drops unbound raid loot. I highly doubt they're going to be selling raid loot outside of tomes because they still have to sell the packs. So really the mass hysteria seems kinda silly. Also Inkblack did post about +5 tomes coming to the game soon.

When arties were coming out and the advertising for VIP was 'misleading,' a lot of folks' take was "That's a bunch of bullshit, it's just misdirection, I'll believe they'll change it when I see it."

When Maj started talking about having more open dialog with the players from QA, I heard the same thing.

I'm seeing that Turbine's really trying to make an effort toward the player base, and I haven't seen a bad faith move on their part since I got started, tbh.  Sure, it's only been since February, but until I see it, I'm going to go nuts and say that they're actually working on something when the devs flat out say they're working on it.

If +3 tomes aren't dropping from non-raid chests in the next six months, I'll gladly eat my words.  But I just don't see the justification at this point to assume they're automatically out to fuck us over and break their promises, especially since +3 tomes haven't been raid-only for what, 3 or 4 years now, from what little I can find on Festivault?  If half a year of decent behavior isn't enough to earn a bit of goodwill, I really doubt that any of the curmudgeons are going to change their mind.

If someone can provide a clear example of misleading, shady shit in the last six or so months that was unfair, I'll gladly listen.
