Epoch...Monk Gear Question
Dec 11th, 2011 at 11:30am
Print Post
Hey, been going through these build threads and at one point, you posted the gear your monk was using but I can't find it.

Can you please post it?

Also, this is a question for anyone else if they can answer it. Will the Epic Gem of Many Facets substitute for any other piece in the Abishai set? It doesn't say it can but I've seen a lot of builds with it and some pieces of the Abishai set included so I was just wondering.

Thanks.

sadly no it doesn't

what the gem does make sets with is here   it's been stated that eventually it'll work with any piece from fens, but who knows when that'll be.

So unless I'm going to use it with the Epic Claw of Volkoor, it's almost useless to me. Thanks.

not sure what your goggles are, but the Raven sight goggles and the gem grants a stacking +4 to hit.

Yeah, the Raven's set is very nice on a Monk. When I finish leveling my TR monk (Dwarven Earth tactics build), my gearout will look roughly like this:

Eyes: Epic Raven's Sight
Head: Minos
Neck: Shintao Cord//Oremi's Necklace
Trinket: Epic Gem of Many Facets
Cloak: Smoke II HP
Belt: Knost's Belt//Epic Spare Hand
Ring: Kyosho's//Oremi's (Holy Burst)
Ring: Encrusted (Shocking Burst)//Warchanter's (Acid Burst)
Gloves: Epic Brawling Gloves
Boots: Madstone
Bracers: Epic Jidz Tetka
Body: DT Vestments

My ultimate plan is to get the 3-piece Abishai with Helm of Frost, Charged Gauntlets, and Scorched Bracers, but that'll take awhile. My monk is a Shintao, so the FB set pairs with crafted wraps for bosses, while the Warchanter's pairs with Alchemical wraps and Spare Hand for trash. I went with Warchanter's mainly because it bumps Kukan Do's DC without having to spend tokens on an epic slot.

That is his current setup.  When I get back to playing him I have different endgame gear setup in mind.  If you would prefer that one, let me know.  I can find my notes on it somewhere on my desk if I look I am sure.

With the introduction of the Spare hand, and alchemical shocking burst handwraps, have you considered wearing the new belt, then hot swapping acid / cold / str rings?

i'm considering making air air (devils), air water (trash beating) and fire water wraps (lob / ma)

most of the time it seems to me that the tier 3 spare hand for doublestrike and a non electric tod ring is going to be the way to roll.

Gear setups for trash mobs are up to the player. I only post what I would be wearing in a boss fight.  That being said, I would wear spare hand for trash.  This setup was before alchemical came up.  I haven't bothered updating as I haven't played my monk in seemingly eons.  I just mentioned the tier 3 rock boots cuz they are better then E corrosion boots and I remembered them off the top of my head.

Now, with the monk wraps change - I might switch it over to acid burst on a ring.  I dunno, I would have to go through all of the new gear and wraps and shit and I am just too damn lazy to do it until I start playing my monk again.

the more i'm looking at it, the more i'm starting to think Ring of the Stalker + unbalancing strike when tanking,

or tharnes goggles and the new Ring of the Stalker when flanking.

Hell, I might get that for my monk and my main. Freeing up a trinket slot for whatever might be fantastic.

If your trinket slot is free, only a litany can go there.  So it isn't really free.  Nice try though.

Or e MF Gem on a WF, since Seeker 6 is a bit harder to find elsewhere.

I was umming and ahhing about the RotStalker on my Monkey. I know it's not the best thing about the ring, but wiki has it that the Manslayer effect is no-go using wraps. Anyone got one and know if that's still accurate?

On an earth monk, I'm critting for ~200, first number. Why wouldn't I want to add 18 damage to that?

Last I read Manslayer was a no go for everything as of U12P1.  (And, yes, it was supposed to be fixed.)

DPS wise litany is more dmg in the long run.  Well, I don't know about earth stance, I haven't gone around to running numbers for it since the change comparing bloodstone and litany.

Earth stance it is probably more now that I think about.  I am getting behind on monks, I gotta start playing mine again  :/
