A little bit of help, if you please.

I'm currently running and not loving a WF Archmage, Terebyte, and am planning to TR her to arti once I get my 40 DQs done. I definitely want to go fleshy, I don't like toasters and more importantly I don't want to pay for toasters once my VIP subscription runs out in 2 weeks time. I'd like to do a combo of casting and ranged.

Artis confuse the hell out of me and I've never played a ranged toon. I'm horrible at doing my own builds. Can anyone point me in the direction of some builds on the forums to get me started? I'm drowning in information somewhat here. It will be a TR1 and I guess will take the wiz past life? I also think I will take the Construct Essence feat thingy.

You need to hit 19 dex with tomes/level ups for IPS, int of 17 or 18 and the rest in con.
All levels into int if you can (1 into dex if you need to).

Toughness
Augment Summoning
Insightful Reflexes
Quicken
...

I might have missed a good feat in there...

WF: Ranged
DM making x3 (if a crafter) If not crafting DM of passage could be good. So could a 2 monk splash.

Iffy:
quicken (have it, never use it, doesn't help scrolling and I find myself using a lot of scrolls)

Recommend against:
construct essence (crappy...sure you can recon, but doesn't help much, you'll be able to UMD heal scrolls by around lvl 12...after using GH)
shot on the run (doesn't actually work, tested it)

I have a Half Elf Arty I'm leveling currently. It was only a 32 pointer, so for 34 points, I'd probably do:

Str: 8
Dex: 16 (1 level)
Con: 15
Int: 18 (4 levels)
Wis: 8
Cha: 8

My feats are:

1 Point Blank Shot
3 Toughness
4A Augment Summoning
6 Rapid Shot
8A Quicken
9 Maximize
12 IC: Ranged
12A Precise Shot
15 Quick Draw
16A Improved Precise Shot
18 Toughness
20A Empower

Once I get to cap, I may ditch Augment Summoning and the second Toughness and take Spell Focus and Greater Spell Focus: Evocation. Quicken could also be chopped, since it's only super useful for Flame Turret. Insightful Reflexes is another option, but it's only +4 reflex saves for me, so not sure if it's worth the feat slot.

If you really want to take Construct Essence, you could just take it in place of Quick Draw.

My thinking with the Construct Essence feat is I do like an emergency heal apart from scroll healing, I'm intending for this probably to be slowly levelled solo or near solo to cap as a side project. But I've been furtling around with the character planner and it looks like you get Reconstruct so late it's sort of meh anyway.

How's those potion bomb things? Does Potency affect them?

Do I need Heighten for anything if I'm going castery?

I'm thinking chop Heighten, Quicken and Construct Essence, which gives me room for Rapid Fire, and either SF/GSF Evo or one and what? Quick Draw's for speeding up hot swaps of equipment and weapon to scroll swaps I presume?

Not really, it's of limited value as Arti spells only go to CL6 and two of you best DPS spells are 6 already and the third is 5 so you wouldn't net much out of the feat.

I thought that, too, which is why I tried it on my 1st life, pure class human artificer, but the 50% makes recon kinda crappy anyway and the -25% healing amp makes other healing lackluster, too. That's also where I learned shot-on-the-run doesn't actually work.

I didn't, but mine is dragonmarked for the crafting levels so I had to give up a few useful feats (Insightful Reflexes, SF:Evo, GSF:Evo).
