So I have this lvl 13 warchanter sitting there, and she's my next capping project once I'm done with my cleric. It feels like warchanter was all kinds of fun up to about now, but the curve has overtaken her ability to be hugely useful. Or, it could be just that I need to lrn2play. I mean, it's me.

Anyone have any feedback on whether warchanter is still pretty viable and useful in later levels, or if I'd be better off respeccing her to a spellsinger? I have a lesser heart sitting in my bank anyway.

I love my warchanter!  I didn't give her much charisma and bumped her strength and she can buff, hjeal, crowd control, and deal out nice damage, too.  Sisster just capped a WC that she really likes that has a couple rogue levels for trapping and evasion.

Soloing with a warchanter is easy as shit til about vale elites, where mob HP fucking balloons and the damage incoming increases significantly.

That being said, I love my warchanter and would not trade anything for her.

It may be that I've had several crappy pugs with her and also haven't really played her for a long time. I'll stick with the warchanter then for awhile. Thanks all!

Are you going pure, or splashed WC?

The reason I'm asking is due to my observation that splashing seems to do much more for most builds.  The 16/2/2 is popular, though I believe Blank has a pretty good one as well.  I have my own variant I am leveling yet again that is pretty effective.  I can post it if needed.  Blank's build, which I like as well, can be found here as well.

It's pure. I hadn't thought of splashing actually, I will go play with it and see what I want to do. Thanks for the suggestion!

The first Warchanter in a raid full of melees adds more DPS than any other party member that can be added.  It is also more awesome than a Spellsinger even though Spellsingers are more useful in some situations because of the spell point regen thing.

Once upon a time (i.e. last week), I'd have said 16/2/2 was a great level split.  Now I think that 18/2 is better.  But not for any reason that I want to say out loud.

I was thinking the same thing re the split, Pope. Do you guys think a couple levels of rogue or fighter would be better if I was going to do it?

@Deeds - It's a strength bard.

If I'm on, I'll likely be on Hordoculture, and you can just ninja me if you want.  Bards are by far my favorite class and I've several, although only two capped right now.  I'm told it is the only class that I play and don't completely and abjectly suck at.  I still am a terrible player, but of the terrible my bard is the best.  Wink

Warcrye went 14/4 ftr/2 barbarian for her first life. She is currently a TR1 16/2/2 ftr/rogue with Paladin Dilly for ri-donk-ulous saves as a bard.

the 16/2/2 is a prefect split at the moment, while I await epic destinies and the enhancement update to see about 18/2 vs 14/4/2.

I'm not going to TR her anytime soon, so if I'm going to do a split it's going to be 18/2 given the upcoming changes.

If you have your feats set, go Rogue.

I have feat anguish, which is keeping those 2 fighter levels around.

I'm not familiar enough with the epic destinies yet to make what I feel would be an accurate suggestion.  I can say that following my original 3 life plan with Elkabongg has been a lot of fun.  I will very likely redo his build with epic destinies in mind.

Others here likely have better ideas regarding a first life bard, or the synergy with the new epic destinies stuff.  I'll be taking a hard look at it once it drops on live.

For a first life bard, my plan for Elka was this on a pure:

Code
Select All
Strength 18
Dexterity 8
Constitution 15
Intelligence 8
Wisdom 8
Charisma 15

Level BAB Class Max Skill Feat 1 Feat 2
1 1 Bard 4 WF:Slash Extend
2 2 Bard 5
3 3 Bard 6 PA
4 4 Bard 7
5 5 Bard 8
6 6 Bard 9 THF
7 7 Bard 10
8 8 Bard 11
9 9 Bard 12 ITHF
10 10 Bard 13
11 11 Bard 14
12 12 Bard 15 IC:Slash
13 13 Bard 16
14 14 Bard 17
15 15 Bard 18 Maximize
16 16 Bard 19
17 17 Bard 20
18 18 Bard 21 Toughness
19 19 Bard 22
20 20 Bard 23

That netted me a 437hp, 1200sp, 38-44str great axe swinging singer/back up raid healer with his gear.

Hmm, I have seen you on a ranged toon that I thought was pretty good.  Can't remember -- a ranger?  D'oh!

But to the thread topic, I love love my bard.  Sad that I have to TR it because it's working the endgame ok with good weaponry now.  Bards rock.

I’m leaning towards the 18/2 split ATM.  I can’t tell you why, but I’m sure your search fu is strong enough to figure out why I came to this conclusion.

I will make my final choice when all the goodies are finished rolling out. MOTU is only one HALF of the vast rollout of new system incoming.

eta: my reasoning behind 16/2/2 being perfect is because 18/2 and 14/4/2 are each just a +3 heart away from the 16 Smiley

I'm on my Bard life on Tereana, my glacially slow completionist. She's planned to be a 16 bard / 3 rogue / 1 barbarian split, 3 rogue for the extra sneak attack and barb for the running speed and baby rage and whatnot. Stole the build of a friend who has one of those capped, was pretty fun to drive his around at cap.

Epic Levels get access to 2 addtional feats. This isnt quite two fighter levels, but 18brd/2rog seems to look less gimpy than it is now.

Stick with a pure warchanter. Learn the class, mold the toon to adapt to what you want it to be. Respeccing to a SS at this point would be admitting defeat. A gimpy WC is easier to play then a gimpy SS. Roll Eyes

My first, and still favorite, bard will always be a pure warchanter. max str, 16 con, 10 int (for skill point) 12 cha.
Find a bad ass two hander and go to town. You will be looked at as dps first. Do this, and you should have no problem piking...err leveling to 20.  Smiley
