Has anyone heard a rumor that Turbine is going to start banning for Window Farming? I've gotten it from two reliable sources in Thelanis. I know they talked about it forever, but apparently now it's srs business.
This is a tricky one.
WF used to be, note the past tense, considered an exploit way on back. Thus, after having a minor vacation from gaming, I banned the practice for my guild. Which worked out fine until Shadow Crypt erupted onto the scene and folks started WF again.
I enforced the ban in my guild, and a few left because of it, but at the same time I used one account to report myself for WF on another account. I had I forget which toon on my Rabbi_Hordo account report that Hordiva (on my Tyche account) had used WF in Shadow Crypt (and to be realistic I actually did WF Shadow Crypt twice...if only once the argument could be made that I had done so with the group accidentally without knowing what I was up to, but twice is less likely to be done unknowingly). The GM sent back a message to me that they no longer considered WF an exploit or offense of any kind and asking me to stop sending in reports for this (did I mention I kind of spammed the report button on that? Guess not).
Once I had that, I PM'd Tolero and Tarrant to confirm if this were indeed true. Tolero replied that yes it was true. Tarrant likley printed off the PM and ritually burned it on the I-Hate-Khyber altar he had going. Armed with this knowledge, I removed the ban from my guild for WF.
I did, however, put the caveat in the guild charter where I wrote the ban that if at any point the pendulum swings back in the other direction be prepared for a re-banning of WF. It would not surprise me in the slightest if they did so. But, if they do, I seriously hope they allow certain quests, such as Shadow Crypt, to be red-boxed once one has properly flagged for it and completed it as they do with many other quests.
I know I have screenshots on my old laptop, but the graphics card is busted. Unfortunately, I cannot access the PMs for any of the above accounts due to a slight disagreement with Tarrant (and much of this I've posted on the Vault in other spots anyway) so those are lost permanently. I'll see if I can somehow get to see what is on that laptop if only to copy the stuff off of it.
