So I'm a little bit confused about how they work....

This is the interpretation I'm getting, can someone confirm or deny this?

Let's say you are a level 5 Drac Incarn, having already leveled Magister.

At any point in time you can put in any enhancement from magister into your twist of fate, and spend ap in it normally.

Let's say I want to unlock the tier 2 magister ability that increases your dc in a chosen school by up to 3. I would first unlock my first twist with 1 twist point, then spend the remaining 2 upgrading it once. I can now put the tier 2 enh in the slot, and put enhancements in it normally.

Am I correct? It seems to be confusingly worded

Basically, you buy it as magister, upgrade that tier however high (it stays the same tier based on how far from the bottom it is, not the points spent upgrading it) and pop it on over.

And you don't have to pay AP for enhancements that you drop into Twist slots.

Awesome. Thank you both, it's a lot more clear.

And it's easy to swap EDs between one you have had previously, and the one you are currently leveling no? So let's say I want to swap in said magister trait, but I have to then level up to 4 Drac inc before I can actually unlock a high enough slot, it would be easy to switch back briefly to unlock it?

Well, last I checked anyway, the unlocked and spent points stayed the same, they just didn't apply, since the magister line wasn't claimed. So yeah. Do note, that also means you can rework it to snag something twistable that you'd otherwise not bother with.
