I am really curious why handwraps were written to be different from weapons.  It must have been a simple solution to a problem and the developer went with simple rather than proper and now they've spent 100 times more work trying to get them to work properly than if they'd just solved the original problem.

This one is dead simple :

- Weapons = weapons slot in the character sheet.
- Handwraps = Gloves Slot in the character sheet.

Originally Gloves Slot was like any other wearable slot... clicky was the best you could get as interraction with the environment.
With the introduction of the Monkey and the Handwraps that slot became also a weapon slot... while not being a true weapon slot.

In the world of turbine creating a flexible program is not created by attributation, but with many specific solutions for many different problems (multiple solutions for each problem running at the same time if possible).

Handwraps are so special... They use a character attribute instead of the weapon to determine the weapon dice. Well they fixed that with [W] kinda I guess. Still it has its own fighting style. One weapon acting as two - blasphemy. Since they probably have seperate function trees for the fighting styles, rather than functions based on weapon attributes, handwraps just didn't mesh well and got their own tree.

Well they work with some C-stuff and are low budget/'high' content and now they probably have a hard time getting their heads out of their asses. Thinking when starting this whole DDO-project would've helped though  Cheesy

my gimp monk uses two Kama from mindsunder and became a mule a few month ago.
my second gimp monk is LVL 4 and is also a mule.

That should give you enough hints.

Never been able to press buttons the right way with a monkey ( I play mainly with the mouse and well it doesn't work with a monkey ). Force leveled her from 14 to 20 through obvious application of Cove XP. ( and before that piked in every guild run I could find ).

It goes back to how they implemented unarmed combat in the first place:
Fighting with a weapon: weapon has stats determining damage.
Fighting without a weapon: base character stats determine damage.

When they added Monk, they kept that split system and made handwraps affect the character stats. They should have changed unarmed fighting to use an invisible "hands" weapon which gets replaced with Handwraps when they are equipped. Sounds like they are finally doing this.
