I'm not surprised you like this Strake.  I recall you being very anti-grind.  From what I can tell, there is very little grind in this thing at this point.  That may all change, but with the foundry, the ability to have novel content is pretty open-ended.

Maybe a NWO Discussions section?  Kinda like the DDO Discussion section?  It would be nice to have a place to start multiple threads.

While I can see that you can play this game easily without spending money, I feel like I am going to get the founders pack, or whatever, so I can have more character slots. I see myself playing this game for awhile. I am not sure two character slots is going to cut it. Either that, or I just make another account.

We could have the "Good D&D MMO Game Forum" and the "Broken D&D MMO Game that sucks everything enjoyable in life away Forum".

I'm holding off on dropping cash until live, but will def drop money on the game.  The main F2P thing I dont like is the $6 cash for respects, when stuff is really poorly described about feats, effect, stuff not working ect.  That being said, I'm hoping they are like alot of F2P games that do this, and hand free tokens out like candy when they nerf/buff stuff in classes.

I've got a cleric and wiz so far, and will have one of each class soon I'm sure.  I cant see any reason to spending cash on more character slots, when I can just start a new account.  Nothing I have run into is BTA.

Also: TIL, people still play DDO and want to have discussions about it.  Really? Give it up guys  Roll Eyes

http://www.reddit.com/r/Neverwinter/comments/1e27hq/use_an_xbox_360_controller_t...
This is a very easy way to map your controller to send the keystrokes and mouse movements necessary to play Neverwinter.

You will need to download GlovePIE

and run the application. (there is no install, so I suggest extracting the contents and making a shortcut on the desktop) This is a great free and open source alternative to the keymapping apps you are probably used to, and the programing language gives us control over more parameters.

Here is the script I made that works quite well for me(you may find that you want to make changes to the keybinds, but that is a pretty simple process of replacing the keyboard.x entries with the x being the key you wish to change it too.

    Start of script

//Left Stick – Movement

keyboard.W = XInput1.Joy1Y > 0.2
keyboard.S = XInput1.Joy1Y < -0.2
keyboard.A = XInput1.Joy1X < -0.2
keyboard.D = XInput1.Joy1X > 0.2

// Right Stick – Mouse Pointer
// To change the lookspeed, increase or decrease the number preceding the deadzone - default is 20
Mouse.DirectInputX = Mouse.DirectInputX + 20*deadzone(XInput1.Joy2X)
Mouse.DirectInputY = Mouse.DirectInputY - 20*deadzone(XInput1.Joy2Y)

// 360 Bumpers
keyboard.1 = XInput1.LeftShoulder
keyboard.2 = XInput1.RightShoulder

//360 Triggers
keyboard.e = XInput1.RightTrigger
keyboard.q = XInput1.LeftTrigger

//360 Buttons ABXY
keyboard.space = XInput1.A
mouse.RightButton = XInput1.B
keyboard.r = XInput1.Y
Mouse.LeftButton = XInput1.X

//360 dPad
keyboard.6 = Xinput1.Up
keyboard.3 = Xinput1.Right
keyboard.4 = Xinput1.Down
keyboard.5 = Xinput1.Left

//360 Start and Select
keyboard.f = XInput1.start
keyboard.esc = XInput1.back

//360 Stick Clicks
keyboard.shift= XInput1.LeftThumb
keyboard.Tab= XInput1.RightThumb

    End of script

Default key maps as follows:

Lstick     - WASD (move)
Rstick     - Mouse X + Y (look)
Dpad       - 3,4,5,6 (Potions and mount)
A          - space (jump)
B          - Mouse right click (secondary at-will)
X          - Mouse left click (primary at-will)
Y          - R (third encounter power)
Ltrigger   - Q (first encounter power)
Rtrigger   - E (second encounter power)
Lbumper    - 1 (first daily power)
Rbumper    - 2 (second daily power)
Lclick     - Shift (class mobility ability - run, dodge, shield, etc)
Rclick     - Tab (class activated ability - Unstoppable, Mark, etc)
Back       - esc (clear menus, exit dialogue)
Start      - F (interact, autoloot)

NOTE: I have an old controller with a lot of drift, so even with the deadzone function on the mouse input my look drifts up and right quite often. This shouldn't affect most people, as the deadzone is reducing the drift I have. Removing the deadzone command will cause almost any controller to drift a little. If anyone knows how to increase the deadzone size in GlovePIE, I would love to know, and will update the script accordingly.

I played using this script for 3 hours tonight, and it was awesome!

This game is awesome. I may be renaming this site soon.

Regarding mouselook: I switched from using alt to using 't' so it aligns with what I'm used to with DDO. Also, while it doesn't solve all of the concerns, you can auto-run in non-mouse-look mode, you just can't turn or jump.

I thought the combat system would be horrible for healing. I couldn't have been more wrong. It ROCKS for healing. I am no longer a slave watching health bars.

Did a foundry quest with some friends last night, was an hour and a half long and FUCKING AWESOME. The foundry is really well implemented. It will give life to the game even if (company-based) development dries up.

@strakelnoskar, on Mindflayer server.

Do you remember which Foundry quest it was? I've seen a few great ones, a few were OK, and a couple of duds so far. MY RL friends and I ran Keep on the Borderlands for old-times sake. It was cool for the nostalgia value, but not that interesting otherwise.

As for awesomeness, I was in a group the other day where we had to fight what seemed like a thousand mobs at once, half of them were very tough, nearly wiped a few times, and still pulled out the win. It was one of the most epic battles I've ever played in a videogame.

This. I'm slowly getting used to the lack of movement like you have in DDO, but not worrying (too much) about health bars (or SP) makes it worth it.

The best way Ive seen to make foundry quests is get 3-4 people together to share a building account.  Then you can go much more indepth with both the building and testing of it.

$6 respecs only sounds bad if you forget the years DDO had no respecs. Also, you can buy respec tokens without spending real money, so it may ne a moot issue depending on cost.

Multiple accounts vs more char slots: things like mounts can be claimed on every character of an account. There are similar benefits beyond mounts.

Anti-grind plus combat where player skill matters. DDO used to have both, they completely dropped one and tamped down on #2 too much.

NW section will likely go up tonight, I'll move all thread there so feel free to start more. Renaming of the site will depend on activity.

Holy shit I completely forgot about the lack of SP. So nice to not worry about that.

Also, I love the glittertrail quest objective guide. I am no longer stuck staring at a minimap trying to join blue dots... now I can look at scenery whilst following a glittertrail. It pays to inspect the nooks and crannies, though Smiley

Yeah. The gameplay does feel considerably more confined. It makes me sad, though it's quite a bit of fun nonetheless

The third at will you get, grants temp HP on attack.  lots of the healing is, beat the crap out of someone, and you heal others.  As far as a caster cleric its alot more fun.  I agree, I want a mace and board cleric soon.

The cleric is the only class in the game that can move and DPS/Heal with their tab function, which is really key sometimes/

I hit level 10 mid-quest last night and must have accidentally hit tab. There was much confusion when I suddenly looked like Gandalf, running around with that beam of light he used to protect the riders of rohan from those dragon-like things.

Does healing change at higher levels?  As far as I can tell, a melee has access to pots that scale faster than their HP bar.  There are pots of 1000,2000,4000, and 8000 HP per drink and a 12 second timer on them.

I've not run with a cleric yet and never felt scared about my HP bar.  I just quaff a pot and it fills me up.  With healing at that level, does spell based healing really even matter?  How do you die, unless you just aren't paying attention or get stunned/knocked down?
