Leveling solo in NW is not bad, but leveling with a group we just blew through the quests. Even when we had to do the quest a second time because someone doesn't know how to pick up quests.

I've been playing, people are right, game is good, but not great.

It suffers from the 4e of basically no multiclassing, or really any build differences.  The range of guardian fighters in the game is about the same as if you were building guardian fighters in 4e.  I'm guessing this will be augmented by different types of the different classes, which is already seen with great weapon fighters and guardian fighters.

Game looks good, pretty hack and slash, but I'm only upto a 26 Cleric.  I have talked a few RL friends that I've played some table top with, to try a static party, they all seemed pretty excited.

The foundry is what sets this game apart.  Ive only played a bit in it, but the level of story telling was great in one of the quests I ran (first quest in a 7 act series).

I'll drop a bit of cash on the game, but I dont see the game becoming a major addiction, just something to supplement GW2 with.

From the Shadows campaign, starting with The Hidden Blade?  That one is supposed to end up being seven parts, and that is also one of the ones that I really enjoyed, so that might be the one.
The second part of it gives you a little bit of the history (as well as finding out who that flowing haired chick was).

Does anyone know when Neverwinter is supposed to take place?  I'm guessing before the original games because of the presence of the Nasher rebels in this game and Lord Nasher is the leader of NW in NWN 2.  I've tried searching around online, but can't find anything.

Between 1462 and 1480 on the Forgotten Realms Calendar about 100 or so years after the Spellplague depending on where in the time line they want to put us.  Technically, you are in New Neverwinter because Neverwinter asploded.

http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Neverwinter

http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/New_Neverwinter

As for Nasher, supposedly when Neverwinter exploded the whole Nasher line was killed.  There are rumors of an existing heir who escaped the city (it's actually a character theme in the 4e Neverwinter campaign setting) thus the rebels who fight to displace lord Neverember as pretender to the throne and a carpetbagger from Waterdeep, like Hillary Clinton but with a sword.

At first glance the game seems to closely follow the 4e Neverwinter campaign setting book of the factions and etc.  I can send you a PDF copy.

One thing I find annoying is that so much of the gear is Class specific.  I guess it stops you from screwing up and equipping shit that does nothing for you, but I think feels very confined.

There's still plenty of ways to screw up, since that big RECOMMENDED text calculates total score of all mods, not the ones relevant to you, saw a lot of shittily geared people while inspecting them (yes I'm one of those people Cheesy )

So it's just like DDO then? "EH FoT - main Destiny only, have PLIS and Ring of Djinn or gtfo"

Or is the gearscore req. actually imposed by the game? I have quite a ways to go before getting to Epic levels...

It's imposed by the game, but if you're willing to do a bit of PvP at 60 it's not too bad, the first tier dungeons (GS5700) are pretty easy aswell.

OH AND OMG JUST FOUND OUT YOU CAN ADJUST THE VOLUME FOR EACH PARTY MEMBER SEPARATELY

Not having that option traumatised me so much in DDO  Cry

Comparing the feedback from the NW team to the DDO team I am just mystified. Server outage on NW and within 5 minutes Facebook is updated with the news and that they are working on it.

I see the Dev Tracker is full of things talking about already bug testing internally for upcoming patches; which is seemingly light years ahead of DDO.

NW is fun, but I don't think it will hold me; it's more of a true mmo whereas DDO is more of an rpg that I just happen to group with people. It has a completely different feel.

Just hit lvl 11 on my control wiz though, pretty nifty. The grouping system feels non-existant, maybe I am missing something.

You hit on several of the strengths and weaknesses:

Strengths:
Fun quests, content.
Cryptic's team is doing a good job with community relations/support.
Foundry for ongoing new opportunities

Weaknesses:
Grouping
Customization
Challenge level (or lack thereof)
MMO-ish vs. RPG-ish design

I don't think it will have lasting appeal either, unless the Foundry and end-user content is just constant and amazing.  But it's also early.  If they can release some more classes and races and keep enhancing the UI, it might have better legs.

That's what they say; I imagine that they will only do that if the influx of new players dies down so that one server can properly handle the load otherwise they will keep as many servers up as needed.

...or they validate that their tech can handle the load.   Mega servers are the future of MMO.
