I'm baffled as to what you found refreshing about Wildstar. To me it was the definition of a generic shitty MMO.

  • More active combat than most MMOs. I still prefer DDO's style of active combat but Wildstar's is way above that.
  • The concept that crafting and selling to the vendor to make money (what many called exploiting) is intentionally part of the game.
  • Addons. I know this isn't exactly a new concept, but the depth of the hooks they allowed were amazing.
  • Housing. I've never, ever, ever understood why people were always all twerky about housing. My housing experience is DDO and SWTOR - utterly pointless, IMO. Wildstar's housing is really really cool.
  • CREDD. It's like earning Toilet Paper from Turdbine for questing in order to pay your sub, but it actually works.
  • The way they like to play with physics as part of normal gameplay.

In the end, they weren't refreshing enough. Dodging attacks is cool but combat is way too limited. In DDO, I had multiple hotbars of abilities, not to mention multiple hotbars of clickies and potions and scrolls and wands and weapon sets and armor sets (and on and on and on). Wildstar I have 8 buttons that I hit in sequence for every encounter.

WS also suffers from boring loot. Not as bad as SWTOR, but boring.

I'm determined to try out the endgame. I'll get there, eventually. Maybe.

I am of the opinion that instanced housing in any mmo is shit. Wildstar's housing setup was pretty good, but after messing with everquest landmark.... its just meh...

What is the point of instanced housing?  I'm OK with a guild airship for buffs and a way to speed up moving between public zones, but why do I need my own house in an MMO?

So it's basically like a bank/shared bank?  You can unload inventory that you don't want to carry around while questing?

That's good to hear. I love the concept of Landmark, but I haven't tried it yet.

I'm with you here. It's less a matter of need than it is want. I've never understood the want before. Wildstar's housing is like a sandbox where you can build your own place. At the base level, everyone's looks the same. But there are thousands of items you can use to make your house look utterly unique. I'm not all that into decorating the place, but I've seen some absolutely amazing stuff.

WS housing offers what you expect from DDO - buffs, fast travel, crafting stations, vendors. It also offers ways to make (lots of) money, instances you can place on your land, rest XP, and a safe place you can teleport to from anywhere (and back to the place you teleported from).

I think they did pretty well, if only the housing plots were in public zones. I loved UO's housing systems(bugs and all) due to that fact. Is why I am so upbeat about landmark, the users tools are the game artists tools and its in public zones.

Landmark is okay, my only fear is that progress seems to be slow and the game will be a bit outdated before it is released. Also, it is SOE, so the potential of fucking it up right before release is catastrophic.

Well some people really like decorating their place. I think it was in UO, if you stacked certain stuff on top of other stuff you could make decorations that looked like other stuff. Like stack X Y and Z and it looks like a fish aquarium or something.

And some people collected really rare or oddly coloured unique stuff to put in their house to show off - some people get down like that. Some people get down on PvP, some people get down on griefing. Just another subset of people who enjoy one very specific thing. To people who don't care one way or the other, it seems like a waste of time. To people who thoroughly enjoy it, well it's what they like.

I am rather indifferent to housing. I wish I could have a house in DDO since storage sucks so badly, not because I want to be an interior decorator.

I'm still sitting on 39 CREDD. That's $780 that someone paid Carbine in exchange for game time in a game that could only be accessed via subscription.

I'm guessing they'll say that CREDD can now be used to be a VIP, which is total bullshit due to the huge loss in value. Personally, I don't care - it's not like I actually paid anything for the CREDD I have - but I can't wait to see the backlash.

I hear freemium is the model agreed upon. It really doesn't matter though since wildstars financials were so freaking bad. Seriously, they are barely enough to keep the lights on.

Kiddy cartoon stylization is usually a dealbreaker for me. I don't know if I will bother even when it's free.

Yes. Lots of good things about this game. Plenty wrong with it, of course.

So I'm upgrading my computer in a week or so and I'm thinking of buying Wildstar with a buddy of mine if it runs well at that point.

About this CREDD thing, is it easy to get the gold/plat/whatever currency the game has to buy it? Is it remotely probable for us to acquire CREDD on the first month of gameplay? Can you somehow dupe CREDD , and if so, does anybody have CREDD to spare?

I read some shit in reddit about the game going f2p in aug but it seemed like an untrustworthy source.

It's fairly easy to generate in-game currency. At cap, simply running dailies and shiphands will net you 3-4 plat. CREDD prices range from 13pp to 18pp, usually spiking near the echoes of launch date.

Is it remotely probable for you to acquire CREDD on the first month? I guess it depends on your playstyle. If you're a 4+ hour a night guy, yeah, no prob. The hurdle is getting to cap, and for many, that's not a hurdle at all.

That said, the real (legit) money is in crafting. While you can start that at a low level, a fair amount of investment is required.

I do not know of any way to dupe anything. In fact, I don't know of any currently active exploits. Generally speaking, CREDD cannot be transferred (it's typically bound to account, the only way to get unbound CREDD is to buy it with real money). However, I do have CREDD to spare. I can just give you guys the plat to buy CREDD to make sure you have time to get to cap.

Someone here said that it was a hoax, that the proof submitted to the reddit mod was a pay stub from a friend of the hoaxer.

So it does sound like a hoax... but I think f2p is the only way Wildstar can survive.

Warning! Wildstar is not optimized for AMD CPU's. If you happen to have a high end amd chip/mb and a high end gpu you should have enough power to brute force your way to acceptable framerates. Intel chips are much currently leaps and bounds ahead of amd mainly due to poorly implemented optimization in quite a few current games. I foresee this as a tend and as such ordered an i5-4690 last night in fact.
