My review of Wildstar

For anyone who cares, here's my opinion on the game:
I found it just a really old version of WoW that was worse than anything Blizzard ever produced.
PVE was a continuous tread mill of quests, each quest lead you to the next and it felt like I was an Ass with a carrot in front of me. I thought I could live with the cartoony art style, but eventually it really started to grate at me and took the fun out of exploring the world.
The higher I got through levels though the more repetitive it felt, I've gotten to level 18 & I've given up.
I bought my house and went inside... it's tiny, basically same space as someones rumpus room. It was seriously fucking disappointing after all the hype.
There's no depth to character creation at all. Every class is pigeonholed, the decision to tie races to factions and restrict some classes from some races is also very unappealing to me.
This all being said, the game is a long ways from finished, the PATHS need more fleshing out, animation running on some races really need to be fixed. Positive notes were the puzzles tied into some quests to keep it fresh, and the hover boards and double jumping.
tl;dr
The quest interface and linear questing just sent me fucking bananas. PVP is unbalanced.

I also didn't like the lack of customization.
I did really like the combat system that telegraphs attacks. It's pretty handy to see cone sizes and ranges of your attacks.

If for some reason you still want to play this beta, and you somehow still don't have a beta key, quite a few places are giving out keys for the two week beta period that begins this weekend. If you have a curse.com account (the people that bought Minecraft wiki) they're giving out keys starting on the 3rd.

Premium is only if you want a key now. Normal curse can get keys starting the 3rd.

“Most Americans are close to total ignorance about the world. They are ignorant. That is an unhealthy condition in a country in which foreign policy has to be endorsed by the people if it is to be pursued. And it makes it much more difficult for any president to pursue an intelligent policy that does justice to the complexity of the world.”

Jumped in to open beta. I really like the creativity of some of the abilities, and the combat seems active enough to be quite interesting. I like it!

A bunch of us are playing on Olyssia. I really enjoy the game.
We are branching our SWTOR guild to Wildstar.

It definitely gets better the higher you get if you don't play past 20 you really haven't even seen the game.
This is what I can't wait for...

it's also one of the most complete MMO's I have ever seen at launch; raids, PvP, housing, challenges, crafting, paths, achievements, and more. Every possible mechanic or system is there to give different types of gamers what the are looking for. Most MMO's these days launch with only 50% of this stuff finished. The only thing missing is guild housing and warplots sort of fill that void for now.
Plus from what I hear they plan on a bi-weekly release cycle with no expansions same model DDO used for years.

the thing about ddo is the best characters i have and the most fun I have playing really do not actively use more than about 8 hot buttons at any given time, and but uses the other 80 about 1% of the time. so despite the hotbat/abiltiy of DDO, its largely just for buffs or dealing with debuffs. my active combat moves are more about placement, timing, and not dying, aside form the 3-6 active combat abilities in any given rotation. mostly true of all classes/builds, but maybe that's just indicative of my playstyle.
i dont like cartoony, but I think I could be ok with Wildstar if I gave it a shot.
I LOVE ddo but it's just not aging well anymore. and frankly im running out of things to do in DDO that dont bore me

I like the concept of the shorter action bars as well. In SWTOR, I often found in other MMO managing 20-30 abilities just gets in the way of actual game play and movement.
